RUSH: Here\u2019s a story from Fox News. This… See, I have a sense of things in this country. I believe there\u2019s a great silent majority. I think you\u2019re in it. The silent majority is made up of people who are not represented by the Democrat Party or the mainstream media. <\/p>\n
The silent majority are the people who get up and go to work, try to play by the rules, try to do everything right according to their morality and sense of ethics and their sense of right and wrong. They get laughed at and made fun of for it in movies and books and TV shows and songs. They\u2019re consistently impugned. They\u2019re called old-fashioned, fuddy-duddies, hayseeds, unrealistic, what have you. But they\u2019re there, and it\u2019s a huge number. My impression, my gut instinct about the silent majority is it\u2019s about to explode. It\u2019s about had enough. A lot of small, incremental things have happened over 20 or 30 years.<\/p>\n
“New York\u00c2\u2019s Stony Brook University has decided to no longer cancel classes for major Christian and Jewish holidays in an effort to ensure that some religions aren\u00c2\u2019t given special treatment and to ‘afford equal support and equal respect to students and faculty from all faiths.'” So Stony Brook University is no longer going to recognize major Christian and Jewish holidays because it might offend people who aren\u2019t Christian or Jewish. “Jewish students would be impacted on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover and Holy Week.” No longer are classes gonna be canceled. You observe the holiday, you get no credit for showing up \u2019cause the classes are going on. <\/p>\n
“Christian students would be impacted on Good Friday. The Christmas holiday is protected under a union contract and occurs when classes are traditionally not in session,” anyway. So there won\u2019t be any change over the Christmas break because that\u2019s protected under a union contract. But if the unions didn\u2019t have a contract saying they weren\u2019t working over those two weeks, then I guess we\u2019re to assume here that classes would not be canceled for Christmas, either. “The university had considered allowing faculty to schedule exams on Saturday and Sunday — a time when many students attend worship services.<\/p>\n
“However, that decision was tabled after reaching a compromise with students. ‘As a secular university, as a state-funded university our priority must be to maximize instructional opportunities for our students,\u2019 said Charles Robbins, vice provost for undergraduate education. ‘First and foremost, it\u2019s important to note that while I respect everyone\u2019s concerns, the reality is it\u2019s a relatively small number of people who are upset.'” It\u2019s just the Christians and the Jews. He didn\u2019t say that. I\u2019m just adding that. I\u2019m illustrating. “[I]t\u2019s a relatively small number of people who are upset.” I\u2019m saying: Yeah, like it\u2019s just the Christians and the Jews. <\/p>\n
“Robbins told Fox News the university\u2019s decision to stop cancelling classes for Christian and Jewish holidays offers ‘equal protection under the regulations to everybody and no one is getting quote, unquote, special treatment.\u2019 Robbins, who has a background in social justice, said many religions, including the Muslims and Buddhists have never had their holidays officially recognized by the university,” and that isn\u2019t right. “‘Now all segments of our population will be equally recognized,\u2019 he said. ‘It really is the American fair thing to do.'”<\/p>\n
This is the kind of story that\u2019s going to cause an eruption in the silent majority. The silent majority, made up of Christians and Jews alike, are not doing anything to destroy this country — they\u2019re not doing one thing to harm it — and yet they\u2019re sitting around and watching the destruction take place all around \u2019em. And then they hear that because they are a majority, their very existence makes life unfair for others. So we\u2019re gonna take away your holiday and we\u2019re gonna take away your tradition. Except for Christmas because the unions have a deal there. “However, Stony Brook University\u2019s 24,100 undergraduate and graduate students are not as religiously diverse as the vice provost said.<\/p>\n
“According to a report in The Jewish Week, 26% consider themselves Roman Catholic, 24% consider themselves other Christian, 8% are Muslim, 5% are Jewish, and 5% are Hindu. Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, told Fox News that the university\u2019s board of trustees should conduct an investigation into the matter. ‘The goal here is radical secularism being shoved down the throats of the people at Stony Brook,\u2019 he said.” That\u2019s right, and it\u2019s coming from some of these “social justice” guys. So once and again, it\u2019s an attack on the people who make the country work. It\u2019s an attack on the traditions and institutions which have defined the greatness of this country. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s an attack on people who aren\u2019t doing anything. These people are not destroying the country. They\u2019re not taking steps to pervert the culture. So call it what you want: Political correctness, censorship, fear, superiority, arrogance, what have you. Here you have a liberal who has majored in “social justice studies” mandating that classes will no longer be canceled for Christian and Jewish holidays \u2019cause it just isn\u2019t fair to the others. “A number of faculty and students are outraged over the decision.” I should add that. “‘You really have to choose between my faith and my school work and I don\u2019t want to be put in that position,\u2019 Aaron Gershoff told CBS News.” <\/p>\n
Well, they just put you in that position. <\/p>\n

CALLER: (garbled) I\u2019m like many of your listeners. I\u2019m just waiting for the left to implode on their issues. Everything they do is amazingly charged. There\u2019s nothing logical about it and they seem to thrive on divisiveness, which brings me to the subject you brought up earlier, which is “social justice.” And I have to tell you, even outside DC and the country out here, we deal with this on a daily basis with our school system, and they do it in a very insidious way. I\u2019ve seen it with my child who in social studies classes here — and I refer to it as “socialist studies class” — would be basically called out for having a “white point of view.”<\/p>\n
