RUSH: In Sanford, Florida, the leader of the New Black Panther Party called for a $10,000 bounty for the man who allegedly shot and killed Trayvon Martin. A $10,000 bounty. When I first heard of this story, the first thing I thought of was the Duke lacrosse case. Everything here lined up perfectly, just as the Duke lacrosse case did for a stereotypical situation or cliche to be fulfilled. And before anyone knew the facts, look indeed what happened: That stereotype was filled in, all the blanks were filled in, and everybody got into gear just as they did during the Duke lacrosse case. Now others are coming forward. The New York Times referred to the alleged shooter here, the shooter George Zimmerman as a “white Hispanic.” <\/p>\n
That\u2019s what I mean by reminding me of the Duke lacrosse case. <\/p>\n
So that\u2019s who the New Black Panther Party is, according to a left-wing group. Mark Potok, P-o-t-o-k, is the head of the Southern Poverty Law Center. (interruption) How can you do a bounty with no warrant for his arrest? How can the New Black Panthers offer a bounty? Well, if nobody stops them. (interruption) You think the New Black Panther Party should be in trouble for putting a bounty out? Well, you know, the New Orleans Saints head coach has just been suspended a year for having bounties in the National Football League, and the defensive coordinator of the Saints at the time, Gregg Williams, been suspended indefinitely. And the general manager of the saints Mickey Loomis been spent for eight games. All this starts on April 1st. (interruption)<\/p>\n
Yeah. I\u2019m just reporting what\u2019s going on out there: The New Black Panther Party with a $10,000 bounty on a man who hasn\u2019t been charged. I think that\u2019s why there\u2019s the bounty. They\u2019re upset, Dawn, that the legal system is not being fair with them here. Still, it is a… I have to admit, I was shocked when I saw that. I was shocked that… See, I was shocked that there hasn\u2019t been anybody stand up and say, “Whoa, can we cool this down a little bit?” Everybody\u2019s speaking on this… Well, not everybody, but the people making hay out of this are inflaming it and making it bigger — I mean, from the White House on down — rather than try to cool this thing off and slow it down and wait \u2019til we found out exactly what happened here.<\/p>\n
By the way, is not just the New York Times referring to George Zimmerman as a white racist. I think the whole media is doing this now. All of the mainstream media are now calling him a “white Hispanic.” As I say, I had never heard that before. And we checked, and we could only find five previous such references to Hispanic as being white in the New York Times. So the New Black Panther Party with their bounty are calling for this guy to be kidnapped, or rounded up and brought to them for justice.<\/p>\n BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n RUSH: So I\u2019m getting e-mails. People want to know what the bounty is for. Here\u2019s what I\u2019ve got:<\/p>\n “The leader of the New Black Panther Party called for a $10,000 bounty for the man who shot and killed black Florida teen Trayvon Martin, a case that continues to spark explosive emotions and strain the country\u00c2\u2019s racial tensions. ‘An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,\u2019 New Black Panther leader Mikhail Muhammad said Saturday when he announced the reward at a protest in Sanford, the Orlando suburb where the killing took place. Members of the New Black Panther party called for the mobilization of 10,000 black men to capture George Zimmerman, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Zimmerman has gone into hiding due to death threats and the offer of the $10,000 reward, his legal adviser Craig Sonner said, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n “‘He should be fearful for his life,\u2019 Muhammad said.”<\/p>\n The New Black Panther leader who issued the bounty said, “He should be fearful for his life.” Now, this is a bounty. Uh, where is the president on this? Where is the attorney general on this? I would think that somebody in authority would try to do something to calm this down, to quell this, until we find out what really happened. There are too many competing stories. Nobody really is sure of what happened here, but we\u2019ve got a stereotype that people are eager to fulfill that\u2019s the same stereotype that existed in the Duke lacrosse case. But I\u2019ve been expecting the president all weekend long to stand up and put this bounty issue in perspective, to say, “We can\u2019t have this.”<\/p>\n This appears to me to be an open sanction to vigilante-type justice. I know the president\u2019s in North Korea, but he could still say something about this. And when he doesn\u2019t say anything about it, we\u2019re left to question why. And we don\u2019t know the answer to that, either. I remember the Rodney King circumstance. That was back in the nineties when the police officers in Simi Valley were found not guilty. I remember the riots that ensued after that. George H. W. Bush went into action. He mobilized the Justice Department do a civil rights violation investigation into Rodney King to find out whether the Simi Valley Police…<\/p>\n Of course, that caused its own set of circumstances that riled people up. But at least there was an effort back then to quell some of the anger. It wasn\u2019t successful. The riots happened. Reginald Denny was the guy yanked of the truck in LA in front of the helicopter camera. Everybody saw that. But it\u2019s just a puzzling thing to me. Just by virtue of asking the question: Where\u2019s the leadership? Where\u2019s the effort to slow it down, to cool this off, knowing full well it\u2019s a powder keg? I wouldn\u2019t think anybody, any reasonable person would want this powder keg to explode any further than it already has. Some people say that this speaks volumes about the kind of leadership that we have. <\/p>\n We have an election year, and could it be that the administration is restrained here because of that? Remember Obama\u2019s got trouble with his base. That\u2019s what this nonexistent-but-alleged Republican war on women is all about. Obama is not doing well with the female vote, and he\u2019s trying to improve his circumstances there. And throughout the polling data, his base is not that firm because they\u2019re not happy with the slow speed with which they thought they were gonna get a new kitchen or a new car or at least have a job. So he\u2019s a little tenuous here. So that could be one of the explanations. But that\u2019s what the bounty is for: $10,000 for the capture of George Zimmerman. And Muhammad, Mikhail Muhammad of the New Black Panther Party says “He should be fearful for his life” in Sanford, Florida.<\/p>\n BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n RUSH: The New Black Panther Party has called for “the mobilization of 5,000 black men to capture George Zimmerman,” and they claim they\u2019re getting donations from black entertainers and athletes and they\u2019re trying to raise a million dollars here off of this incident. <\/p>\n BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n He writes a piece at National Review called Impromptus, and it\u2019s all about where we are in the country in terms of race. He says, “Every once in a while, something will happen that makes me think, ‘Oh, yeah — that\u00c2\u2019s why I became a conservative in the first place.\u2019 Does that ever happen to you? … Robert De Niro made a joke, just a joke. But sometimes — often — jokes tell us something. He said, ‘Callista Gingrich, Karen Santorum, Ann Romney. Now, do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady? Too soon, right?\u2019 When I was growing up, the liberals around me seemed to think of everything and everyone in black and white — literally.”<\/p>\n I experienced the same thing. I have the same observation that Jay Nordlinger has. It is the left that doesn\u2019t see the humanity in people. They see the surface. It\u2019s the left who sees black and white, male and female, gay and straight, whatever, because they group-ify everybody, and they victimize everybody. And they don\u2019t ever just see people. They see race, they see gender, they see sexual orientation first. And Nordlinger writes here that when he was growing up, the liberals around him “had race on the brain. People weren\u00c2\u2019t people, with their virtues and flaws, but skin colors. Does it occur to you that Michelle Obama is black?<\/p>\n “Not to me: It occurs to me that she\u00c2\u2019s a left-winger, a fitness enthusiast, a left-winger, a fashion-plate, a left-winger, a jet-setter, a left-winger, etc.,” and I can say the same thing about Obama. I remember back on January 16th of 2009 when I first said, “I hope he fails,” everybody said to me: “How do you say that? It\u2019s the first black president!” I said, “I got past that after he won the election. He\u2019s not black to me. He\u2019s a left-winger. This guy has ideas I totally disagree with. That\u2019s who he is to me. He\u2019s not ‘black.\u2019 He\u2019s not anything. He is a human being! He\u2019s a liberal or worse, who I hope fails implementing his ideas.” <\/p>\n Now, everybody who criticized me knew exactly what I meant, by the way. That outrage back then over “I hope he fails” was fake and ginned up just like practically every bit of outrage about me is. It is manufactured. This is just the way it is. But I got past the “historical” aspect of his election the day of the election, the day after his inauguration. “Okay, fine. We\u2019ve elected our first black president. Now, who is he?” Because the media had not told us who he was during the campaign. He had not been vetted. In the same way, just as Jay Nordlinger talks about Michelle Obama, I really do not see a black woman. <\/p>\n I see somebody who\u2019s trying to force us to eat what she thinks we ought to eat, to exercise the way she thinks that we ought to exercise, and I see that that\u2019s none of her business, whether she\u2019s first lady or not. That\u2019s what I see. Now, Nordlinger says, “Does it occur to you that those other women…?” The ones De Niro mentioned: Callista Gingrich, Karen Santorum, Ann Romney. “Does it occur to you that those other women, those other wives, are white? Not to me,” says Jay Nordlinger. “Frankly, I don\u00c2\u2019t know enough about them to think of them as anything at all. But I\u00c2\u2019m pretty sure that their skin color is one of the least important things about them. How sad — how wrong — to live in a black-and-white world. <\/p>\n “Of the shooting victim in Florida, Trayvon Martin, President Obama said, ‘You know, if I had a son, he\u00c2\u2019d look like Trayvon.\u2019 Yeah, so? What if he wouldn\u00c2\u2019t look like Trayvon? What difference does that make?” and I know what Nordlinger means, here. “What if the victim had been of Chinese ancestry, or a freckly red-headed Irish-American kid, or a kinky-haired Jewish piano student?” What prompts somebody to say, “Yeah, if I had a son he\u2019d look like Trayvon.” What is the point? This is really is foreign to me, the way the people on the left think and the way they view things. Nordlinger continues here: “So? What is wrong with people? Do we really serve the god of biology?<\/p>\n “What Barack Obama\u00c2\u2019s offspring would look like: Isn\u00c2\u2019t that the least important thing about the Trayvon Martin case?” and he\u2019s right. It is the least important thing, what the kid looks like. This poor kid was shot, and the president of the United States\u2019 only public reaction is: “If I had a son, he\u2019d look like” that? For what purpose does one say that? And what must you be thinking about this situation, to think that and then say it? The questions answer themselves, obviously. “If I remember correctly…” This is Nordlinger writing: “If I remember correctly, Chris Rock once had a talk show, which had Jesse Jackson as a guest.<\/p>\n “And the host, Rock, asked him, ‘Could you tell me something, Reverend? I\u00c2\u2019ve always wondered: What is it you do?\u2019 A few days ago, Jackson said, ‘Blacks are under attack.'” Nordlinger writes: “That\u00c2\u2019s what he does. When Rick Santorum spoke out against Internet porn, he was supposed to have committed a political error: Why is he hung up on [porn] when we have big, big problems, serious fish to fry?” Why get so distracted about Internet porn? Well, my reaction was: Is somebody in favor of it here? It is a huge problem. Our cultural rot is a big problem. What was the big faux pas that Santorum made? I didn\u2019t see it as a faux pas. I\u2019ll be honest: I didn\u2019t understand everybody else thinking that it was a huge political gaffe. <\/p>\n There\u2019s a lot of stuff in this country that needs to be fixed. There are a lot of things that are wrong. Cultural rot is in the middle of this mix. Some of the cultural rot going on in this country is a direct descendant of political decisions and political programs that have been put into place. Santorum\u2019s mistake is that he assumes that a lot of people think and see things as he does. And a lot do, but the political class doesn\u2019t. The political class gets fixated on whatever the issue of the day is, as defined by the mainstream media, and then rolls with that. But he\u2019s exactly right here. I do not understand, and I have no problem saying so.<\/p>\n I do not understand the president of the United States not saying anything when a group of citizens issues a bounty for another citizen in the United States of America. The president or his Justice Department don\u2019t even seem interested in that. And then when this young kid gets shot in Sanford, Florida, the reaction is: If I had a son he would look like that? Sorry. That\u2019s the last thing that ever occurs to me when somebody gets shot. When somebody\u2019s murdered, the last thing that matters is that they look like me. It doesn\u2019t compute. But the left, they see things like this purely as surface matters. These are political opportunities for these people. That\u2019s the sad thing about this. Here you have the death of a American citizen that\u2019s seen as a political opportunity. <\/p>\n There\u2019s no humanity in that.<\/p>\n There\u2019s no compassion in that. And the New Black Panther Party, don\u2019t forget, is the group that intimidated voters in 2008 in Philadelphia and a number of other places, and lawsuits were filed against them for voter intimidation and the Obama Justice Department (the attorney general, Eric Holder) just threw the investigation out. He just brought it to screeching halt. And the assistant attorney general, J. Christian Adams<\/a> — who was prosecuting the case against the New Black Panthers — quit. He resigned and wrote a book, and we interviewed him.
