RUSH: Charlottesville, Virginia. We start with Jeff here in Virginia. Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, Rush. How\u2019s it going?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Very good, sir. Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: With this whole Obamacare<\/a> Supreme Court case going on, all the pundits are speculating, “Is this gonna be good or bad for Obama depending on if it\u2019s struck down or if it\u2019s upheld?” And now that it seems that Romney is probably gonna be our guy.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.<\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, potentially. Could be our guy.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, it\u2019s not as easy as that. I know it appears that way, but right now the only way… I\u2019m gonna put this in perspective for you, and I\u2019m be nonpartisan in this. The other two are gonna have to quit. They\u2019re gonna have to resign. Otherwise Romney is gonna have trouble getting to 1144 delegates if they stay in. The only way he can get there prior to convention is if they pull out. You know, I\u2019m like you. The Republican primary has been going on out there with Obama this week and I\u2019ve been distracted with a couple of other things. But I\u2019ve kept up with it, and Santorum\u2019s winning a couple here and there. We\u2019ve got Marco Rubio endorsing Romney, and Rubio says: I\u2019m endorsing him because of what I heard Obama say to Medvedev.<\/p>\n

He said: You gotta give me some flexibility, Dmitry. Hang with me here. When I get reelected I\u2019ll get rid of the nukes then. Then nobody can stop me.<\/p>\n

And Medvedev said: Okay, good. I\u2019ll tell Vlad.<\/p>\n

Well, Rubio heard that and said: That\u2019s all I need to hear. I\u2019m endorsing Romney.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t ask me what that means. That\u2019s what he said.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: So it\u2019s not yet etched in stone. And Romney had another gaffe. He\u2019s talking about his dad who used to run American Motors. George Romney. They made Jeeps and Ramblers and so forth and they had three plants: One in Kenosha, Wisconsin; one in Detroit; and somewhere else. And Romney\u2019s in Wisconsin campaigning and he started bragging how his dad (chuckles) used to close down factories.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (chuckles)<\/p>\n

RUSH: In Michigan but not in Wisconsin he\u2019s campaigning in Michigan. (paraphrased) “Yeah, my dad he\u2019d shut down factories but he did it in Michigan.” People are going, “No! You don\u2019t brag about that.” So this isn\u2019t yet done.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay, well let\u2019s just say it\u2019s looking maybe more likely than not.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right, I\u2019ll grant you that. I didn\u2019t mean to interrupt you. I know you have a different point to make, but I just wanted to get those factoids out there.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, that\u2019s good. Let\u2019s just say if he\u2019s the nominee and they strike down this law, Obamacare.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Is that an argument that he can make to differentiate himself from Obama, saying, “Look, his health care law was struck down, mine was not, and they\u2019re completely different”?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you are very shrewd. There\u2019s a reason why you\u2019re in Charlottesville, Virginia. I can tell.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (chuckles)<\/p>\n

RUSH: There are people on the Romney side who are already making that very argument, that having the mandate struck down is one of the greatest things politically that could happen to Romney because it\u2019ll prove his point. Now, Romney has been attacked for having a health care bill that is said to be the blueprint for Obamacare. He\u2019s been asked about it, and he said, “Wait a minute, now. The states can do every mandate in the world they want. The federal government can\u2019t because the commerce clause. I would never do a national mandate! I would never, ever, as president, do a national mandate. But in the states, these laboratories, it\u2019s okay.” And people are saying, “So if the court throws out Obama\u2019s mandate that this proves Romney brilliant and exactly right.” I think it\u2019s a stretch, but they\u2019re going to play it that way. You\u2019re exactly right.<\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER: I think it\u2019s a better argument than he\u2019s got so far, anyway.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, the theory is the Romney people want to inoculate him from the tie to Obamacare, and so the Obama mandate being thrown out while Romney\u2019s stands, will be said to mean that Romney knows what he\u2019s talking about. “He\u2019s right! You can have a state mandate, but you can\u2019t have a national mandate,” and hope to score points on it that way. And you think that would redound favorably to him?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I think it would help bolster his argument. It doesn\u2019t seem to get a lot of traction now.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: But I think that could really solidify that argument for Romney.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You\u2019re right. At the end of the day, nobody\u2019s ever gonna be able to say Romneycare is unconstitutional.<\/p>\n

<\/a>CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: But they\u2019ll be able to say Obamacare is not only unconstitutional, but what that means is it\u2019s illegal. That\u2019s the word that needs to be used. If they throw it out, “unconstitutional” is one thing but I prefer the word “illegal.” Because they\u2019ll understand that wherever you go in this country.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: “Unconstitutional” might confuse some of them, but “illegal” they\u2019ll understand.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, there\u2019s another reason to hope this thing gets overturned, I guess.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well…<\/p>\n

CALLER: Like we need another reason.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, but… (sigh) I\u2019m still struck that we\u2019re even here on this, but we are. It\u2019s a reality that can\u2019t be denied. But everything happens for a reason. And I said earlier this week: This is one of the greatest teachable-moment opportunities ever to have happened since I have been behind the Golden EIB Microphone. In that sense, it\u2019s godsend. Just like the NAGs said that I was of a “godsend,” God\u2019s gift to women.<\/a> I know they didn\u2019t intend it but they said it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
