Right here my formerly nicotine-stained fingers, a story from ABC\u2019s Good Morning America on May the 19th of 2008. (That\u2019s almost four years ago for those of you in Rio Linda.) “Sen. Barack Obama ripped into a Republican ad today that targets comments made by his wife, Michelle, and called the GOP tactic ‘low class\u2019 and ‘detestable.\u2019 The Illinois senator told ‘Good Morning America\u2019 that he expects hardball tactics from the Republicans if he becomes the Democratic presidential nominee. ‘But I also think these folks should lay off my wife,\u2019 he told GMA as his wife chuckled beside him.” So The One told the Republicans to lay off his wife.<\/p>\n<\/a>Let\u2019s go back! This is last Friday morning in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building across the street from the West Wing. At the White House Forum on Women and the Economy, this is Obama setting the stage, perhaps even sending out the instructions to Hilary Rosen.<\/p>\nOBAMA: I was in the state legislature. I was teaching. I was practicing law. Uh, I\u2019d be traveling, and we didn\u2019t have the luxury for her not to work. And I know when she was with the girls she\u2019d feel guilty that she wasn\u2019t giving enough time to her work. And when she was at work, she was feeling guilty she wasn\u2019t giving enough time to the girls. And like many of you we both wished that there were a machine that could let us be in two places at once.<\/p>\nRUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\nOBAMA: And so she had to constantly juggle it —<\/p>\nRUSH: Yeah!<\/p>\nOBAMA: — and carried an extraordinary burden for a long period of time.<\/p>\nRUSH: She didn\u2019t have the “luxury.” By the way, the use of the word “luxury” here, I think, is key to target Romney. He didn\u2019t have the “luxury” for Moochelle not to work. Now, Obama at the time with his state legislature salary and also as a lawyer, was pulling over a hundred grand a year. But they didn\u2019t have the “luxury” for Moochelle not to work. (interruption) What are you laughing at? What did I say that\u2019s so uproariously funny in there? (interruption) Okay, they\u2019re making snide jokes amongst themselves. This is why they don\u2019t have microphones. This is why you don\u2019t hear \u2019em, folks. ‘Cause I always get asked, “How come you don\u2019t let us hear what they\u2019re saying? One-way conversations are very frustrating.” They\u2019re safe, is what they are.<\/p>\n
