RUSH: Yesterday on this program<\/a>, I was advising Romney how to get down and dirty with Obama. Since Obama is getting dirty, and the aggressor sets the rules in these fights, this is one of the things I advised Romney to do…<\/p>\n

RUSH ARCHIVE: (New Castrati impression) “Okay. So, Mr. Limbaugh, since you have the answer to everything, what would you suggest that Romney do if he\u2019s doing this wrong?”<\/p>\n

Okay, fine.<\/p>\n

You say, “Look, pal, when I was out creating jobs, investing in businesses, and growing this economy, you were at Columbia smoking weed and snorting coke. You write about it in your book. You talk about how you got into Columbia and the Harvard Law Review, and you didn\u2019t have to do anything. That\u2019s what was great about it to you! You loved getting into Columbia \u2019cause all you had to do was go to class, get your grades, and smoke a little weed! Well, I was out building the country when you were doing that.”<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the kind of stuff I\u2019d say!<\/p>\n

This is the Chicago barroom guy who doesn\u2019t care about the aftermath as long as he wins.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, last night on MSNBC, I\u2019m told they said, “Limbaugh\u2019s racist. You start talking about a black guy doing drugs, that\u2019s racist!”<\/p>\n

“Oh, no, no, no! Obama wrote about it in his book!”<\/p>\n

“Well, but Limbaugh should know that Obama just did this to try to deal with the pain of losing his father. That\u2019s the only reason! It\u2019s just racist. It\u2019s Limbaugh being racist here by bringing this up.”<\/p>\n

And, by the way, that is one of the reasons Romney won\u2019t go there. They don\u2019t want that charge.<\/p>\n

(interruption)<\/p>\n

No, I\u2019ve not been told that. I\u2019m just convinced. One of the reasons that they\u2019re not going there is race. It\u2019s, like, the same reason McCain wouldn\u2019t. A lot of people are starting to ask, “Where is the way you dealt with Santorum and Newt?” And the answer coming back is, “Well, those guys are conservatives. It\u2019s okay to hate conservatives. It\u2019s okay to be mean to conservatives. You don\u2019t do it to Obama.”<\/p>\n

Well, Sununu, John Sununu, didn\u2019t get the memo. This morning on Fox News Channel\u2019s American Newsroom, Sununu was on with Martha MacCallum, who said, “Do you think the Romney campaign has done a good enough job coming out with their own take on that statement Obama made about business owners not building the business themselves?”<\/p>\n

SUNUNU: [Obama] has no idea how the American system functions, and we shouldn\u2019t be surprised about that, because he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something. He spent the next set of years in Indonesia — another set of years in Indonesia. And, frankly, when he came to the US, he worked as a “community organizer,” which is a socialized structure, and then got into politics in Chicago. There has been no experience in his life in which he\u2019s earned a private sector paycheck that meant anything.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, Sununu, in every one of his TV appearances, takes no prisoners. So I think Sununu has been appointed with the task of going out and performing the duties that I am suggesting need to happen. ‘Cause that\u2019s it: “[I]n Hawaii smoking something.” He\u2019s doing it. Never had a paycheck, Chicago politics… The only thing he left out was that Obama\u2019s been mentored, educated, bent and shaped by a bunch of communists. Marxists.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: Somebody else made that happen!<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right. Now, Karl Rove was asked about this last night on Special Report with Bret Baier. He said, “Look, Karl, there\u2019s this growing conservative voice out there that seems to be saying to the Romney campaign, ‘You need to go on the offensive.'”<\/p>\n

ROVE: Here\u2019s the conundrum: Obama wants them to fight back in the same way that he\u2019s attacking. He wants them to get down in the gutter with him. So when they go back and refute this, they need to flip this to a higher level. They can\u2019t take the bait and fall into the mud with President Obama. Because at the end of the day, if this is a battle between two sort of mud-slingers, neither one of them looking presidential, people will tend to go with the guy who is already president.<\/p>\n

RUSH: We\u2019re finding out here why the Bush White House never responded to anything. It\u2019s the assumption in this case that Obama will win because he\u2019s got incumbancy on his side. Well, they didn\u2019t think that when… I\u2019m just lost. Anyway, here\u2019s Joe Trippi. Joe Trippi was also on the same show with Bret Baier, and after Rove said that Romney\u2019s campaign shouldn\u2019t get in the mud with Obama\u2019s campaign, Bret Baier turned to Joe Trippi said, “Joe, do you agree with that?”<\/line><\/p>\n

TRIPPI: I think care-to-be-cautious candidacies always don\u2019t do very well. And Romney\u2019s a care-to-be-cautious candidate, and they\u2019re running a care-to-be-cautious campaign. It\u2019s not gonna work. They\u2019ve got… I think they\u2019ve gotta get proactive and get aggressive and start defending or deflecting these attacks a lot better than they\u2019ve been doing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, Trippi\u2019s a Democrat. Obviously his sympathies are with Obama. So you have to factor in that maybe he\u2019s trying to rope-a-dope the Romney campaign into getting down and dirty. But I just want to point something out to you. It was only last week that the economic roof of Obama\u2019s house caved in. It was economic news that should have ended his candidacy, and now what are we talking about? “How does Romney recapture the offense here?” Remember the long discussion we had here about how the economy, as traditionally used in a campaign, isn\u2019t gonna work this time?<\/p>\n

In a sane world, Obama doesn\u2019t have a chance in heck of getting reelected because of the economy.<\/p>\n

And yet what are we talking about here?<\/p>\n

“How does Romney recapture the offense?”<\/p>\n

That\u2019s how out of whack all this is.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, so the Democrats always have a war room. But we are not supposed to go to war. No, we\u2019re supposed to stay above the fray and surrender, essentially. Stay above the fray. If we go to war… We can\u2019t go to war because the press will not treat us fairly, so it doesn\u2019t make any sense to go to war.<\/p>\n
