RUSH: Here\u2019s the devastating news from TheHill.com, and I think this poll probably reflects White House internal polling. “A majority of voters believe the country is worse off today than it was four years ago<\/a> and that [Obama] does not deserve re-election.” A majority of voters. Have you ever seen, or heard of, a poll with these results from ABC\/Washington Post, NBC\/Wall Street Journal, CBS\/New York Times?<\/p>\n

Speaking of the New York Times, they had a story on Sunday. A guy at Forbes, after he read the story, posted an analysis piece of it, saying that this piece pretty much ends Obama\u2019s presidency. It illustrates what a lousy CEO he is, what a lousy president he is. In fact, here\u2019s how the guy starts it: “A New York Times front page story today — New York Times! — might have killed President Obama\u2019s re-election hopes.” First the poll.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Fifty-two percent of likely voters say the nation is in ‘worse condition\u2019 now than in September 2008, while 54% say Obama does not deserve reelection based solely on his job performance.” So 52% of likely voters — likely voters — say it\u2019s worse, and 54% say we\u2019ve got to let the guy go. Fifty-one percent of women “believe Obama does not deserve reelection.” Now, it\u2019s interesting. This is the time of year in the campaign we start getting polling data of “likely voters” not “registered voters” or “adults.”<\/p>\n

“Only 31% of voters believe the nation is in ‘better condition,\u2019 while 15% say it is ‘about the same,\u2019 the poll found. Just 40% of voters said Obama deserves reelection. The results highlight the depth of voter dissatisfaction confronting Obama as he makes his case for a second term… They also strongly suggest Democrats need to convince voters the election should be a choice between Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney, rather than a referendum on” Obama.<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s a referendum on Obama — which it\u2019s going to be. There\u2019s nothing they can do about that. They have shot everything they\u2019ve got at Mitt Romney! They haven\u2019t been able to tarnish him. Over $100 million has been spent so far trying to cast Mitt Romney as some sort of evil villain, a mean-spirited extremist. Murderer! Felon!<\/a> It hasn\u2019t worked. Now Romney has access to all the money he\u2019s raised and he can start firing back on his own.<\/p>\n

This poll, by the way (it\u2019s very important to point out) does not oversample Democrats. It\u2019s one of the first. Here, let me give you the breakdown. The breakdown is shocking: Democrat 34, Republican 36, independent 30. Now, remember they come up with these samples (they tell you) to reflect voter turnout in previous elections. What\u2019s apparently going on here with this poll is that they are sampling what they think might be reflective of turnout in this coming election.<\/p>\n

Based on all the information on enthusiasm — who has it, who doesn\u2019t — and it\u2019s clear that the Republicans are far more enthusiastic, conservatives far more enthusiastic about voting than Obama supporters are. I hasten to remind you that we had the news on Friday. I forget the poll now, but Obama was down 15 points among independents — 15 points! So slowly but surely we are getting news stories and polling data which reflect what\u2019s really going on.<\/line><\/p>\n

Not what the media hopes they can make happen. But, rather, what\u2019s really going on. Now, it\u2019s easy for me to sit here and tell you that in the past six months when I\u2019ve seen polls that show Obama up eight or up ten, I didn\u2019t believe them. I never have believed them. I\u2019m on record I don\u2019t know how many days in the past three months saying, quote, “If the election were today, Romney would win in a landslide,” and I haven\u2019t wavered from that. The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press says fewer people are going to watch the Democrat convention<\/a> in 2012 than in 2008 by 17%.<\/p>\n

The Republican convention<\/a> had the same level of interest from 2004 to 2008. But the Pew people have gone out, surveyed Democrats, and found their projections are that 17% fewer people are going to watch the Democrat convention. I\u2019m not afraid of people seeing this convention. This convention, I\u2019m telling you: The contrast is going to be amazing. It\u2019s going to be stark. It\u2019s going to be profound. It\u2019s going to be the Star Wars bar scene!<\/p>\n

They think they have a convention that reflects “the diversity of America.” They think they\u2019ve got a convention where the people there in the crowd — the delegates, the speakers — “look like America.” The problem is the Democrat Party is a party of grievance, a party of victimology. Everybody is incompetent. Everybody is a victim. Everybody has a grievance against the Republicans. Everybody\u2019s miserable, and the reason for that is Republicans.<\/p>\n

Everybody\u2019s unhappy because of the Republicans. Everybody has got all sorts of negative vibes about them; that\u2019s because of the Republicans. You\u2019re going to see speaker after speaker after speaker trying to sound optimistic about Obama and his great work, while at the same time portraying this country in ways you don\u2019t see it, you don\u2019t recognize it, and you don\u2019t want it to be. They\u2019re going to try to tell us that the presentation they make is an honest reflection of America, but it isn\u2019t going to fly.<\/p>\n

For example, the gay population of America is — according to the Census — 1% gay. Nine percent of the delegates and the attendees at the Democrat convention are gay. The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender group is big in the Democrat Party but it\u2019s not a mainstream American subgroup. But for the Democrats, they work because they\u2019re victims, you see? These are people victimized by the evil majority since the days of the founding. Without even seeing this convention…<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen enough of them in the past. There\u2019s been the Wellstone memorial, all kinds of examples. Particularly when they can\u2019t make the case for their record. They can\u2019t stand up and talk about how gas prices are the new norm. They can\u2019t talk about how 8.3% unemployment is the new normal. They can\u2019t make the case for what\u2019s happened. They cannot affirmatively, positively, with good cheer, make the case for anything that\u2019s going on with the country right now.<\/p>\n

They just can\u2019t do it.<\/p>\n

Some of them want to try. Some of them think this is what we deserve. Some of them think this is what we deserve for what we\u2019ve done as a country around the world. We deserve this. We deserve this kind of economic malaise. We deserve this kind of misery so we can find out what it\u2019s like to live in the rest of the world — because we\u2019ve caused it. So you\u2019re going to have people with all kinds of grievances against the country and try as hard as they can. Here: “Forward!” “Forward!” is their theme and we\u2019re going backward to Bill Clinton <\/a>as the star of the show?<\/p>\n

And Jimmy Carter also not just sitting there as Jabba the Hutt overseeing the convention, now he\u2019s got a speaking role this time, doesn\u2019t he? “Forward.” Jimmy Carter with a speaking role! Anytime you think Jimmy Carter offers an opportunity for your party to look better… (laughing) They can\u2019t make the case for anything. They\u2019ve tried demonizing Romney. They\u2019ve tried demonizing Paul Ryan, and they\u2019re not through. I expect to hear my name<\/a> mentioned now and then at this convention. They believe they can gin up hatred for Republicans by mentioning my name. They believe they can motivate and raise interest and enthusiasm on the part of Democrat voters by mentioning my name. So they will. And there will be others that they think cause Democrats to react the same way.<\/p>\n

Carter\u2019s going to speak via video. Well, that\u2019s safer. All they can do is hit the screen when they throw things at it. They can\u2019t hit him if he\u2019s not actually there. Obama said that the Republican convention looked like the old black-and-white TV days. Paul Ryan said, see, Jimmy Carter is the good old days. What was wrong with those black-and-white TVs? What was wrong with strong families? What was wrong with all of that? So old-fashioned and quaint and it simply doesn\u2019t relate to anything going on today. That\u2019s a shame, too. It may be true, but it doesn\u2019t. But it should. I think Obama sees everything in terms of black and white. So it\u2019s not surprising to me he would reflect on it that way. <\/line><\/p>\n

Mrs. Clinton is nowhere near this convention, halfway around the world. Claire McCaskill is not going to the convention. Another bad omen, Cory Booker, the Newark mayor, who has already been taken to the woodshed <\/a>once for saying he liked private equity, he liked Mitt Romney, liked Bain Capital — Cory Booker was scheduled to address the Florida delegation Tuesday morning, this morning at the convention. He got out of the car. He tripped on the curb and injured his leg pretty badly. But he gutted it out. He toughed it up. He proceeded to address the Florida delegation standing on one leg and then headed to the hospital to be treated. So a rising Democrat star trips on the curb on the way to speak to the Florida delegation. <\/p>\n

(interruption)<\/p>\n

No, I don\u2019t think the SEIU was involved. I think the curb actually got in the way. Now if the SEIU is involved, that will come out at some point. <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thurman, New York. Carolyn, you\u2019re first. It\u2019s great to have you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Just wanted to make a comment that if they were going to be busing in people for the convention they should have no problem because a lot of us don\u2019t have jobs to go to.<\/p>\n

RUSH: The problem is a lot of them don\u2019t have IDs and you\u2019ve got to have an ID to get into the convention.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, that\u2019s true.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You gotta have photo ID to get on the buses. Photo ID to get anywhere near this convention site. And a lot of Democrats don\u2019t have photo IDs because it\u2019s just too oppressive. It\u2019s too racist. It\u2019s too bigoted to have a photo ID. I don\u2019t know how these people get on airplanes. I don\u2019t know how they shop. What am I saying, they don\u2019t. They have their government debit card.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I was going to say the food stamp card doesn\u2019t have to.<\/p>\n

RUSH: But you\u2019re right. You\u2019re thinking they could easily fill the place up with the unemployed.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Absolutely. I\u2019m available, unfortunately. <\/p>\n

<\/a>RUSH: You don\u2019t want to go, though, do you? <\/p>\n

CALLER: I don\u2019t think I could sit through it for more than an hour. Unless they want somebody yelling at them.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I can\u2019t imagine you would want to go. I mean, even for the historical aspect of it. Who wants to be in that crowd? <\/p>\n

CALLER: I don\u2019t know about that crowd, but I\u2019d love to go to North Carolina again.<\/p>\n

RUSH: When was the last time you were in North Carolina? <\/p>\n

CALLER: I think it was about, oh, must have been about 15 to 20 years ago.<\/p>\n

RUSH: If you don\u2019t remember exactly when it was, why are you so excited to get back? <\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, I loved it. <\/p>\n

RUSH: You loved it so much you don\u2019t remember when you were there.<\/p>\n

CALLER: True. That must be old age creeping up on me.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no, no. It has nothing to do with age whatsoever. It\u2019s strictly a gender thing.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, okay. (laughing). This is the Republican War Against Women<\/a>, got it. (laughing)<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing) Exactly. Carolyn, thanks much. I appreciate the phone call. You do. They would have trouble with photo IDs, getting enough people.
