<\/p>\nRUSH: You might have read, if you read blogs, or you watch television, you might have heard conservatives in some cases, say something along the lines of this: I don\u2019t think Obama\u2019s up ten or 12 points anywhere, but I do think he\u2019s winning. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any question. I think Obama\u2019s leading this race. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s any question about it. <\/p>\n
You sit there, you watch this, and you either tend to agree with it or ask yourself, the TV, why do you think that? And nobody ever answers. It\u2019s a fascinating thing to me. People will disavow the poll that says Obama\u2019s up ten, 12, whatever, in this swing state or that. “No, that can be right. He\u2019s not up ten or 12, but I think he is winning. I think he\u2019s winning, Bob. He is winning, Dana. Yeah, Greg, I gotta tell you, Angela ‘Tarantula,\u2019 he\u2019s winning.” <\/p>\n
Why do they think that? <\/p>\n

I think they really do believe it. I think people that say it believe it, and I don\u2019t necessarily believe they\u2019re fatalists. You know why they believe it? It\u2019s real simple. They think the Romney campaign is a dud. The Romney campaign is not exciting them, so they don\u2019t think the Romney campaign\u2019s exciting anybody. They think Romney\u2019s not going after Obama nearly enough. They don\u2019t think Romney\u2019s doing anything memorable in the campaign. Not a day goes by that people say, “Wow, did you hear what Mitt said today?” That hasn\u2019t happened. There\u2019s no apparent real energy coming out of the Romney campaign, despite all the crowds he\u2019s drawing. So I think people, honestly, in their own minds, are legitimately thinking Obama\u2019s winning because they think the Romney campaign\u2019s so dull. <\/p>\n
In normal circumstances, I would tend to agree with that. But — and it\u2019s a big “but” — I don\u2019t think it matters. ‘Cause I don\u2019t think the election is about Romney. It was yesterday on this program that I made a point. I get calls from you, and I talk to friends of mine, and every time a poll hits that shows Obama way up, I hear from people. “Oh, God, Rush, aw, jeez, this is bad.” <\/p>\n
I say, “Why?” <\/p>\n
“Well, it\u2019s just gonna depress everybody.” <\/p>\n
“How about you, are you inclined now not to vote?” <\/p>\n

These are staunch conservatives. Why do you think this? <\/p>\n
“The New York Times, Rush. I mean, we can\u2019t have the media making fun of our candidates like this. We just gotta get rid of \u2019em. She\u2019s hurting us.”<\/p>\n
And I blew up. I literally walked away from my own dinner party. I got up from the table and I stormed out. I screamed first. I lost my composure. I started yelling, honest, I will never forget this, and I was saying things to them, like, “So it\u2019s that easy, huh? Whatever the New York Times says about our candidate, you\u2019ll throw \u2019em away. You\u2019re gonna wait around \u2019til the Times approves our candidates before you\u2019ll get behind them? Whatever the media says about our candidate will determine whether or not you\u2019ll support \u2019em, is that what you\u2019re telling me?” <\/p>\n
“Rush, she\u2019s just dumb and stupid. She doesn\u2019t have a prayer.” <\/p>\n
I said, “Where\u2019s your sense of fight? Where\u2019s your sense of opposing this kind of thing?” I literally lost it. And I got in the car and I went to the airport early \u2019cause I had to leave for a trip anyway, so I just left, \u2019cause I was so ticked off. And it\u2019s amazing how this stuff happens. There are conservatives to this day that I hear from who, just this week, some e-mailing me in the fits of depression because of the New York Times poll that we cited yesterday. <\/p>\n
“Are you not gonna vote?” <\/p>\n
“Oh, no, oh, I\u2019ll be right in there.” <\/p>\n
But they think that other people on our side will be successfully turned away. They think that stuff is gonna work on weaker minded people than they are. And my point is this. We can\u2019t let the other side call the shots on this. The reason why anybody thinks that Obama is ahead — if they say, “Well, he\u2019s not up by eight or ten, but I think he\u2019s still winning,” it\u2019s because they\u2019re disappointed in the Romney campaign, and they think that the Romney campaign is so dull that nobody would support it, outside of them. They think that there\u2019s nothing memorable. They think there\u2019s no energy. And so, since the Romney campaign is so bleak in their minds, [they think] that Obama has to be ahead. Now, I remind \u2019em, “Do you remember 2010?” <\/p>\n
“Yeah.” <\/p>\n
“Well, what happened in 2010? It was a landslide defeat for the Democrats.” <\/p>\n
Romney\u2019s not a bad guy. Not infinitely preferable, but there\u2019s no way that I would not want Romney to be president given these options here. I\u2019m just convinced that more people are gonna be voting to stop this candidate than any poll will ever show. It\u2019s just that you don\u2019t have the confidence of that. You look at things in your universe and you think, “Oh, my God, Romney\u2019s campaign\u2019s dull. It can\u2019t possibly be jazzing anybody. How can there be any excitement on our side? The Romney campaign\u2019s not thrilling anybody.” Obama\u2019s taken care of that. <\/a>The idea of four more years of Obama and a future that\u2019s bleak for people\u2019s children has taken care of that. Now, the Romney campaign could rejuvenate if it got some life and if it started doing memorable things. That\u2019s why I think it really ought to make a beeline here on Obama\u2019s claim now that he doesn\u2019t see any victims<\/a>. Hell, we\u2019re all Obama victims!<\/a> My only point here (I\u2019m sorry if it seems I\u2019m beating around the bush) is just don\u2019t get depressed.<\/p>\n
