CALLER: Hola. Buenas dias, Senior. Limbaugh. Gracias for hablar conmigo.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ah!<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Mr. Limbaugh. How are you? I\u2019m so grateful that you\u2019ve taken my call.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Muy bien. Gracias.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m a fifth generation Hispanic, and as you can see I\u2019m bilingual. I am a retired consultant in marketing for the Hispanic market. I can\u2019t tell you how many people I try to reach out to in the Republican Party, and I was just going to offer my services for free, but nobody ever calls me back.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait, wait, wait. I want to understand it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And I knew in my heart that this was going to happen.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Wait, wait. I want to understand what you\u2019re saying. You have expertise in reaching the Hispanic market.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You wanted to help the Republicans reach them for persuading them to get their votes?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And the Republicans wouldn\u2019t listen to you?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Nobody called me back.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Nobody called you back.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well —<\/p>\n

CALLER: I guess because my last time is [Spanish].<\/p>\n

RUSH: They don\u2019t call me back, Sylvia.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing)<\/p>\n

RUSH: I mean, don\u2019t assume that that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: But when you say I\u2019m gonna give you something for free that will help you in understanding a market that they\u2019re not aware of?<\/p>\n

RUSH: What do you mean? Wait, wait, wait, wait a second. When I, El Rushbo, when I say, or who do you mean? When somebody says they\u2019re gonna give you something?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Give me, as a company, calls you, Mr. Limbaugh, and says, “Mr. Limbaugh, I have you services that I can offer you that will help you gain listenership” —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n

CALLER: — and I wasn\u2019t gonna charge you anything, would you listen to me?<\/p>\n

RUSH: No.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing)<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019d be suspicious you wanted something on the back end.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) No.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no, no. I would. Look, I don\u2019t believe in people doing things for free.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing)<\/p>\n

RUSH: If somebody wants to offer me something for free, my red flag goes up.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) I tried telling them that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no. Please, please. Now, wait a minute. I\u2019m not trying to be insulting. It\u2019s not that. When somebody offers me something for nothing, it\u2019s not that I don\u2019t believe in there\u2019s something for nothing. I think they want something or they wouldn\u2019t be calling me. They want something, and they\u2019re not willing to tell me what it is.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, because I\u2019m Hispanic, I think maybe I don\u2019t totally agree with that. But we\u2019ll leave it at that. How\u2019s that?<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, in your case, you\u2019re offering the Republican Party, essentially, free advice.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And he couldn\u2019t interest them in it.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Not one. (laughing) Not one!<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, without knowing… I mean, are you just cold calling? You\u2019re saying, “Hi, this is Sylvia, and I have a way for you to win the election?” ‘Cause I guarantee you, that would be a threat to some of them.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, I didn\u2019t say that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: They hire experts who supposedly tell them this. They coulda looked at you as an interloper. Like, if you call me and told me you have something that I could use to reach another 15 million people this program, I\u2019d think, “Yeah, right, right. I\u2019m the expert here.”<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, I just wanted to have somebody speak with me and say, “I can help you with consulting.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, what would you…? Let\u2019s cut to the chase? What would you have told them, had they taken your call?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I would have told them — and it\u2019s very simple — there\u2019s three things, basically, for a Hispanic. In the United States, we have different Hispanics. The Cuban, the Mexican, the people that come from South America.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah. You know, I had a sneaking suspicion you were gonna go there.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All of that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And I have a sneaking suspicion that the Cubans are not all that popular, are they?<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) Uh…<\/p>\n

RUSH: They\u2019re not, are they? And why aren\u2019t the Cubans popular in the overall Hispanic group?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Because unfortunately for the Hispanic population, they\u2019re all different, and they all have their different local customs, and they\u2019re very protective of it. Eventually —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Isn\u2019t it, Sylvia…? Isn\u2019t there a…? I\u2019ll whisper this so nobody else hears.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing)<\/p>\n

RUSH: Isn\u2019t there a (whisper) “racial” component to this? The Cubans are not, you know, I mean —<\/p>\n

CALLER: A lot of times — and I\u2019ll be very frank and honest with you knowing all of the markets that I know — the very society that\u2019s very… They\u2019re very close to their Cuban roots, and I know some of the older-population Cubanos eventually want to go back to Cuba and they don\u2019t want to let it go.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, but the Republicans get a large part of the Cuban vote, particularly in south Florida already. It\u2019s oriented… (sigh) I can\u2019t win here.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (giggling)<\/p>\n

RUSH: I just can\u2019t win. It\u2019s oriented… The reason that the Cubans are not that popular of the Hispanic divisions you\u2019ve talked about it\u2019s because it\u2019s a race thing.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, it is!<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s a race thing. They\u2019re just not quite “as dark,” and they\u2019re oriented toward work.<\/p>\n

CALLER: No, the thing that we — and I\u2019m gonna say “we,” collectively. The thing that we all have in common is Spanish, and that is something that we\u2019re very proud that we can speak a second language. It\u2019s helped me in my career.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And I think that it probably would have helped the Republican Party to have a consultant tell them about the different markets, because they make up a huge market.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, you know something? I have thought, I have really thought that, at some point, we should do a Spanish translation of this program. I think she\u2019s on to something there. I really do. Sylvia, I have to go. I really am glad you called. I really appreciate it. Thank you so much. I hope to hear from you again.<\/p>\n
