RUSH: Look, here I\u2019m already being asked, “Are you gonna talk about Hostess?” Yeah, I\u2019m gonna talk about Hostess. You know what, 18,500 people gone, Hostess Twinkies, Ding Dongs, shut down. Some people might think it\u2019s a buy opportunity if you want to get in the Ding Dong business. But folks, if you need an indication that the Democrats will never compromise on anything, look at this. Hostess is going out of business because of unions. Now, that\u2019s 18,500 jobs. You would think in this economy that somebody might want to show the ability to compromise if only to fool people. They won\u2019t even compromise on this. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Unions are the Democrat Party. Trumka is at the White House again today. Won\u2019t even compromise to save 18,500 jobs. Are you kidding me? Obama couldn\u2019t step in here even for the optics of it? I mean, yesterday he saved New York. <\/a> Today he could save Ding Dongs. He could save Twinkies, except at the White House Michelle\u2019s probably celebrating, \u2019cause this is just rotten, no-good food to her. But, see, I think they wanted this, folks. I think they wanted Hostess bye-bye. And you know why? They wanted this to happen because this is just going to create more dependents on unions and the government. It\u2019s just gonna create more dependents. So this is all fine with Barry. <\/p>\n

I know nobody understands me. I\u2019m doing this program with a whole different mind-set now. Snerdley\u2019s in there panicking. I\u2019m saying mind-set. As I do this program I\u2019m imagining how I\u2019m being heard by all these uneducated, ill-educated, maleducated young people, and it\u2019s fun, and I\u2019m sure that they\u2019re throwing daggers at their radio because they just heard me criticize Obama on this Hostess thing. Anyway it\u2019s a funny thing. It\u2019s actually a build-out on some of the things that we were discussing yesterday about the battles that we face really being cultural<\/a> as well as, if not more than, politics. Anyway, the Hostess thing is what it is. It\u2019s gone. We knew it was coming. It just illustrates there\u2019s no desire to compromise. <\/p>\n

When the Democrats lose elections,<\/a> for example, nobody ever runs around getting introspective, “Gee, you think we ought to become more pro-life? Gee, you think we ought to back off this immigration? Gee, you think we ought to become more conservative?” That never is said. When we lose, I don\u2019t have to tell you.<\/line><\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, folks, so where are we today? Here it is November the 16th, 2012. Where are we today? I can sum it up for you very simply. Al-Qaeda is alive; Twinkies are dead.<\/p>\n

JOHNNY DONOVAN: And now, from sunny South Florida, it\u2019s Open Line Friday!<\/p>\n

RUSH: I defy anybody to challenge me on that. Al-Qaeda is alive and kicking. Twinkies is dead, and they\u2019re joking about it in the media. ABC, Stephanopoulos, they\u2019re making jokes about all this, about Hostess. They\u2019re making fun of Twinkies and Ding Dongs and they\u2019re passing Twinkies out to each other and saying, “Here, don\u2019t eat it now, you can eat it 12 years from now, it\u2019ll still be good, all those preservatives in it.” They\u2019re making fun of it. Al-Qaeda alive and kicking. Twinkies are dead. Ding Dongs are dead. And so are the people that work there. Their jobs are dead. Think about it, if Obama had gotten his way, we would to this day think that those four Americans were killed because of a video, if he had gotten his way.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Dick Trumka, Richard Trumka, the AFL-CIO guy, you know what he\u2019s saying about Twinkies? Blaming Bain Capital. That\u2019s exactly right. The Bain Capital attack is back, and it\u2019s being used against Hostess brands who make Twinkies, Wonder Bread, Ding Dongs. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, in a public statement today, said, “What\u00c2\u2019s happening with Hostess Brands is a microcosm of what\u00c2\u2019s wrong with America, as Bain-style Wall Street vultures make themselves rich by making America poor. Crony capitalism and consistently poor management drove Hostess into the ground, but its workers are paying the price.”<\/p>\n

Romney\u2019s long gone. Romney\u2019s been defeated<\/a>. Romney is to blame for Hostess. Evil corporate vultures went in there and they took their profits, and they took their Twinkies, and 18,500 God-fearing, God loving, wonderful Americans are out because the Republicans don\u2019t give a rat\u2019s rear end about \u2019em. That\u2019s the message. That\u2019s exactly right. Never mind the fact that the union drove this company out of business. It\u2019s their second bankruptcy. But that\u2019s not the story. And one thing we\u2019ve learned, we cannot rely on average Americans learning the truth on their own. What can we rely on? Trumka and the media will be believed. <\/p>\n

The people that can\u2019t wait to turn on Entertainment Tonight, the people that can\u2019t wait to get the next issue of People magazine, the people who can\u2019t wait to watch the music awards show Sunday night, are going to end up believing that they can\u2019t buy Twinkies because the Republicans are a bunch of rich bastards who took all the money out of the company and then shut it down. I know, I shouldn\u2019t be insulting them, they\u2019re all voters, and I shouldn\u2019t be talking this way about \u2019em. I\u2019m not even insulting them. I\u2019m just saying, what choice do they have? They don\u2019t know any better. They don\u2019t know capitalism. They don\u2019t know what unions do. They\u2019ve never been taught this. All they know is what Trumka says. <\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

This is another dispute. You\u2019ve got Hostess and the union. This dispute, like all others, will not be resolved until the Democrats win it. And the same thing with these health care exchanges. This is what we\u2019ve learned. This is why an entirely new strategery is gonna be required of the Republican Party going forward. The Democrats are not sitting on their laurels here. They\u2019re not taking a break. “Oh, wow, we won, let\u2019s go hit the beach.” Nope. Now they\u2019re going for our extinction. Now what they\u2019re doing is trying to remove any opposition of any size whatsoever. And while that happens, our brainiacs are beating up on Mitt Romney. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Tim, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Great to have you on the program. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey, Rush, thanks for taking my call. You know, I think we all grew up with Hostess Twinkies and the fruit pies and all that kind of stuff. You know, Dan White used it as a defense for his double murder there in San Francisco years ago. I mean, Hostess is a national icon. Why can\u2019t we use taxpayer funds? It\u2019s too big to fail, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You know, I\u2019ve forgotten that. I had forgotten the Twinkie defense —<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — for Dan White in the Harvey Milk murder.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And the reason there were no votes for Romney in Philadelphia is because all the Republicans saw this coming and they went out and they were out grabbing all their Twinkies and fruit pies and Ho-Hos and all that stuff before this got off the shelves, they saw this coming. Why didn\u2019t the president see this coming? Why can\u2019t we use taxpayer funds to bail out Hostess? They are too big to fail.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Because the idea is not to save the place. Hostess failing is a great opportunity to blame Republicans for it. The Democrats are taking the long view here, they\u2019re playing the long game. The long game is wiping out the Republican Party, not saving 18,000 measly jobs. Because those people are gonna get 99 weeks of unemployment compensation. They\u2019re gonna get food stamps. They\u2019re gonna hold onto their phones. They\u2019ll hold onto their TV sets, they\u2019ll eat. Obama will take care of \u2019em. In the meantime, he gets to blame Romney, Bain Capital and the Republicans for the fact that the company\u2019s failed. And at the same time he gets to blame capitalism, crony capitalism. That\u2019s Trumka\u2019s word here. Crony capitalism, Bain-style, Wall Street vultures. <\/p>\n

See, you and I, we sit here, we hear that, we say nobody is gonna believe that, until we stop and realize that over half the country already thinks it. They don\u2019t have to even explain that it\u2019s evil Republicans that ran the place out of business because evil Republicans are already known to run big business, and Republicans are already known to hate employees, and Republicans are already known to just steal as much money out of the company as they can and then close up shop and put the money in the Cayman Islands. So Trumka didn\u2019t have to even tell his voters, they already know. He was just confirming it for \u2019em. Al-Qaeda\u2019s alive, Twinkies are dead. But Osama was killed by Obama, and Hostess was killed by the Republicans. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Damn right they had Ding Dongs in Missouri, Twinkies, all that, absolutely. When I worked at the Kansas City Royals, Hostess was a sponsor. I had Twinkies all over my office. I mean, I had stacks of Twinkies and Ding Dongs. And we put plenty of Ho-Hos in the locker room for the players.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Hey, Twinkie fans, all is not lost. All is not lost. Are you ready for this? I have some news here from The Politico. “A new White House petition wants President Obama to nationalize the ‘Twinkie industry,\u2019 saving the popular junk food from possible extinction.” It\u2019s a website called “We the People.” <\/p>\n

“We the undersigned, hereby request Barack Obama to immediately Nationalize the Twinkie industry and prevent our nation from losing her sweet creamy center.” The website is “We the People.” You know who runs it? White House. So the White House has a petition up that many people may not know is a White House petition. As far as people are concerned it\u2019s some interested citizens who are begging President Obama to bail out the Hostess company, thereby paving the way for Obama to go in and do it, responding to public demand, when in fact it\u2019s a White House plan from the get-go. <\/p>\n

So let\u2019s say it happens. Politico\u2019s ready to write the headline: “Obama Saves Twinkies.” Get ready for it. In fact, this was predictable. I should have predicted it when the program began today, \u2019cause it\u2019s just too easy. There\u2019s no way Obama\u2019s gonna compromise with the owners and save it, but he\u2019ll be glad to nationalize it. I mean, this is chump change compared to an automobile company. And then after a while, sell it to the union, or give it to the union like he did General Motors, and then proclaim the Twinkie industry saved. Don\u2019t laugh. Snerdley\u2019s in there laughing. It has happened. It happened with Chrysler. It happened with General Motors. <\/p>\n

Osama is dead; General Motors is alive. Yeah they\u2019re Twinkies, I know Michelle is out there campaigning against Twinkies, but that\u2019s a minor concern to be overridden. I\u2019m telling you, don\u2019t be surprised if it happens. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
