RUSH: We were all eagerly anticipating this spring, All My Babies\u2019 Mamas on the Oxygen network. It\u2019s not gonna air now because of a bunch of stuffed shirts, a bunch of prisses, a bunch of morality police.<\/p>\n

Anyway a bunch of morality police objected. This is the story about the well-known rapper, Shawty Lo. He has 11 kids with 10 women. He\u2019s 32 years old, and he has 11 children with 10 women. They were going to do a show following him around. “How does he manage all of this? How does he provide for all of these family members?” He lives in Atlanta, and they were gonna run around and do a one-hour special and hopefully it would become a reality series.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

But then the morality police, the old fuddy-duddies got in gear. The show was simply gonna say what it is in terms of this lifestyle and just gonna tell everybody what it is. Is it any wonder that the star of a show happens to be black and has the show pulled out from under him? (interruption) Well, I know none of those kids are more important than the president\u2019s kids, but they\u2019re important to Shawty!<\/p>\n

These kids may not be as important as the president\u2019s kids but they\u2019re important to Shawty and their ten mothers. “The one-hour project … has been shelved, said Rashad Robinson of ColorOfChange.org, an online civil rights organization that collected more than 40,000 signatures on a petition objecting to the show\u2019s content.” See? America just doesn\u2019t have the guts to face up to what it\u2019s become. America doesn\u2019t want to look at itself in the mirror.<\/p>\n

America doesn\u2019t have the guts to see what it has forced on the minority community in this country. That\u2019s right. That\u2019s all it took: 40,000 people. “After multiple conversations with Oxygen media executives…” By the way, Oxygen is owned by NBC. Did you know that? Did you care? Me, either. “The company informed us…” This is the guy from the group here, ColorOfChange.org. “After multiple conversations with Oxygen Media executives, the company informed us via e-mail that a decision was made to cancel All My Babies\u2019 Mamas late this afternoon.<\/p>\n

“We thank Oxygen Media for taking this important step. The tremendous response from over 40,000 ColorOfChange.org members, coupled with national outrage from Black folks, sent a clear message that exploitative television shows like All My Babies\u2019 Mamas are unacceptable. The airing of a reality show like All My Babies\u2019 Mamas would have reinforced many of the stereotypes about black men and women that have power to influence public policy. Research shows that exploiting persistent racial stereotypes that marginalize Black Americans have real world consequences.”<\/p>\n

Me, too. I thought it was cool to be a single father. I thought that we were in the process of modernizing and redefining the family unit. I thought the family unit, the old mom and dad, the 2.8 kids, the dog and the white picket fence was out-of-style, old-fashioned, quaint, and exclusionary because not everybody can have 2.8 kids. Not everybody can have a house. Not everybody can have a dog. Not everybody can live in a house with a picket fence. This is not fair. <\/p>\n

So we were going to expand the definition of a family to include whatever people wanted it to be. Shawty just sharing the love. Shawty just sharing all of his love with 10 women and 11 babies. It was a show of love and devotion, how Shawty provides for all, and it\u2019s being ripped right out from under him. I mean, who says that this is a marginalized existence? <\/p>\n

(interruption)<\/p>\n

Well, I haven\u2019t heard how the family\u2019s taking this. Here\u2019s another thing. You have to think that the people that were working on the show were gonna be in for a fairly decent financial score, and now nothing. How much money do you think has been spent of the money they thought they were gonna get? Well, it\u2019s a tragedy. It\u2019s a tragedy for Shawty. It\u2019s a tragedy for the 11 kids. It\u2019s a tragedy for the 10 moms. It\u2019s a tragedy for Oxygen. It\u2019s a tragedy for cable TV. It\u2019s a tragedy for the new definition of the family. <\/p>\n

You know, the Lance Armstrong interview<\/a>, that\u2019s just one show. Well, two episodes now, three hours. What do they do after that? Oxygen released a short statement. “As part of our development process, we have reviewed casting, and we\u2019ve decided not to move forward with the special All My Babies\u2019 Mamas. We will continue to develop compelling content that resonates with our young female viewers and drives the cultural conversation.” So, see, women, War on Women. Who knew that NBC was involved. Here\u2019s a program tailored to women, 10 moms, 11 kids. Shawty was just the vehicle. It was always gonna be about the moms and the women and the kids. Now nothing. <\/p>\n

Well, he was more than a sperm donor. I mean, Shawty, he\u2019s a former drug dealer. That\u2019s where he made his money. He\u2019s a rapper now, lives in a mansion. I don\u2019t know if he knows Jay-Z. I imagine he does. <\/p>\n

Well, I don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t think Obama drinks champagne with him now. He just had his show canceled. If his show was on the air and Shawty became a big star… But they\u2019re essentially saying here that we can\u2019t reinforce these stereotypes. That would be too dangerous. I think it\u2019s too late to be concerned here about the stereotypes.<\/p>\n

Yeah, he does. He gets a tax hike. That\u2019s it. That\u2019s all he gets out of this, is a tax increase. Shawty Lo. See how fleeting fame is? One minute you and your 11 kids and 10 wives… I mean mothers, mothers. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s a wife among \u2019em, actually. Which, hey, new family, who are you to judge? They were on the cusp here of TMZ being on the front yard every day and E! Entertainment network correspondents being there. You know, the Kardashians may be making a visit. The American dream. It was right there, just right there. See why these people hate America? You see why they don\u2019t like their country? Being teased this way.
