CALLER: Hello, Rush. I got to thinking when I heard the story at the top of the hour about the aircraft flying over President Obama and Tiger playing golf in Florida.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n
CALLER: It made me think that perhaps… I\u2019m sure the White House press corps wouldn\u2019t be that desperate, but I think the entertainment press would be to try and get a picture of these two out on the course. And while I was on hold I got to thinking, “Perhaps… What if these were drone aircraft, camera-laden drone aircraft trying to get a picture of these two on the course?”<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, they woulda known because they sent an F-16 up there.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, I\u2019m sure they sent an F-16. That\u2019s for sure. They scrambled something, I\u2019m sure.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Oh, they did.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I mean, four aircraft over a no-fly zone in one day? I know there\u2019s a lot of traffic in Florida, private aircraft.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Let me tell you something. Half of these flyboys, they\u2019re flying VFR. They don\u2019t know the Floridian from Augusta National.<\/p>\n
CALLER: (chuckles)<\/p>\n
RUSH: I mean, half of \u2019em might not have even known Obama was there.<\/p>\n
CALLER: True, true.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Especially if they\u2019re flying VFR, they might not have been told that Obama was there. So I\u2019m sure it was accidental. But your thought about a drone. Who would launch the drone, in your thinking here?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, who would launch a drone? Anybody could launch a drone. I mean, they\u2019re quite readily available and easy to build. They\u2019re privately owned. You can build \u2019em quite easily now. There are kits online. You can buy \u2019em.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Really? Well, now, I\u2019ve got a drone. I was given a gift.<\/p>\n
CALLER: One of those little baby helicopters?<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yeah, it\u2019s one of those helicopters that flies over the property, you know, to make sure the dogs are not peeing on the carport.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Closed-circuit TV.<\/p>\n
RUSH: It\u2019s cool. It\u2019s got a little IP address and a camera. It goes back to your computer. I also have one of these cute little things that rolls around the floor in the kitchen. It keeps track of the dogs, and the dogs look at it, and they don\u2019t know what it is, and it attracts their attention for five or six seconds.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Sounds like a smart trash can.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yeah. (laughing) Anyway, they did. They scrambled jets. I don\u2019t think the media would spend the money.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah, I know. Probably not. Lose somebody\u2019s FAA license to fly an aircraft. But one thing if you wouldn\u2019t mind me asking one more question.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n
CALLER: With this immigration bill, I honestly think that even if the Congress comes up with a bipartisan agreement, the president will probably veto it, even though it has everything to do with border security.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I think the president… As I said earlier: Forget the sequester. That\u2019s a distraction, and forget all these other tiny little things that are made to look gigantic. The thing everybody needs to have their sights set on is 2014 and the House races. If the Democrats win the House, then it\u2019s back to the way it was for Obama\u2019s first two years — and there\u2019s nothing, even if they want to, that the Republicans can do legislatively to stop Obama. If the Democrats win the House, he doesn\u2019t have to go the executive order route to get what\u2019s he wants. That\u2019s why 2014 House races, that\u2019s the next big thing.<\/p>\n
I wish it weren\u2019t.<\/p>\n
The presidential race last November, that was ball game in terms of being able to repeal Obamacare. Now the House races of 2014, who\u2019s gonna control the House, is actually ball game for the kind of country we\u2019re gonna be. Now, I said earlier — I agree with you — Obama thinks that there is much more value in doing battle with the Republicans over amnesty than actually getting a bill that grants it. I think the Democrats have calculated that they\u2019ll get many more votes by having the Republicans out there as this mean-spirited, racist, extremist, anti-immigrant bunch than they will get if they get a bill that grants amnesty.<\/p>\n
The Democrats begged Obama not to submit his own immigration bill. The Democrats and the Gang of Eight, those senators went up there. They announced their bill. They all stood there on the podium. They attached their names and their faces to the bill. What\u2019s Obama do? Obama is here in Florida this weekend playing golf, and his immigration plan is leaked to the USA Today, and his chief of staff is on TV yesterday morning talking about it? It\u2019s not even his, as far as perception is concerned. It\u2019s not Obama\u2019s bill. Obama\u2019s picture isn\u2019t anywhere near it. Obama didn\u2019t talk about it. He didn\u2019t have a big ceremony where he presented it.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the administration\u2019s immigration bill. But it was leaked. It sort of just dribbled out there. The whole purpose of this bill is to gum up the works. This is a wrench thrown into the gears, by design. ‘Cause I really believe… I\u2019ll say it again. I think Obama calculates there are many more votes to get in the 2014 election with the Republicans as the usual bogeymen than there are votes to get by actually passing an immigration reform bill. Now, some Republicans, on the other hand, they think — and this is the danger point — that a panacea for them awaits passage of an immigration bill, and that\u2019s where they\u2019re dead wrong.<\/p>\n
If they think passing an immigration bill with something that looks like amnesty in it is going to result in a massive shift of Hispanic votes for them, then they\u2019re listening to the wrong people. They\u2019re listening to the wrong consultants, the wrong advisers. They\u2019re listening to the same people who\u2019ve advised them on nominating the wrong presidential candidates over the years. It would be the same mistake. What the Republicans need to be doing with immigration in my mind, just off the top of my head here? They need to fight for something they know they can\u2019t get simply because they don\u2019t have the numbers.<\/p>\n
They need to be fighting for something called the sovereignty of United States border. It ought to have something in it like this. Again, I\u2019m just thinking of the moment, but I\u2019m not thinking about something passing. I\u2019m thinking about the Republicans needing something to be seen fighting for, even if they are gonna lose it — and it\u2019s something like this: “You know, we\u2019ve got ten to 12, 20, whatever it is, million immigrants in the country. We\u2019re not talking about deporting \u2019em. Nobody is. But we\u2019re gonna lock down this border, and we are going to reestablish this distinct American culture that immigrants in the past came to this country for.<\/p>\n

“We are going to do everything we can to require assimilation. You\u2019re gonna have to become American. If you cross that border legally, you\u2019re gonna have to be able to hum some bars of the Star-Spangled Banner. You\u2019re going to have to be able to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. You\u2019re gonna have to know your ZIP code. You\u2019re gonna have to be able to answer some questions about this nation\u2019s history. You\u2019re gonna have to know who George Washington is! You\u2019re gonna have to know what the Civil War was about. You know, basic, simple things that everybody in this country\u2019s taught in the first five years of school.<\/p>\n
“If you don\u2019t do any of these things, you do get sent back — and that border\u2019s gonna be tight, and you sneak across that border and get caught, you\u2019re sent home, and you have a red mark so you never get back. We are serious about the border, and we are serious about people who come here becoming Americans. We want people to come here and become Americans. We want people to come here and assimilate. We want people to come here and build this into the greatest nation ever again.” You can construct an immigration bill that spells out your belief in this country, that requires people coming here reflect those beliefs and learn them. You may never get it passed, but it\u2019s something that you fight for.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s distinctive, and once again it draws a contrast between them and the Democrats who are simply looking for votes. Right now, that\u2019s what everybody thinks the Republicans are doing, is simply looking for votes. So right now the cynics look at both parties as simply trolling for votes. “They don\u2019t really care about the people that get here. It\u2019s just the Democrats are gonna be a little bit nicer because they are the welfare state guys.” Well, position this as something like: “We\u2019re looking for Americans; we\u2019re not looking for votes. We\u2019re looking to shore up and secure our border, and there are certain things that you gotta do once we let you across. If you get caught crossing illegally, you never get back in here.”<\/p>\n
That word gets spread all over the world, and we adhere to that with the ones that do get here that we allow in — that we permit in — under the policy that we come up with. Next, we\u2019ll deal with the assimilation of those who are here. Nobody\u2019s talking deportation, but the border has got to be secured and shut down. As I say, this is just the most general of approaches here. When I say, “You need to be able to hum a few bars of the National Anthem,” I\u2019m not being facetious. I\u2019m serious! I\u2019m using this as imagery. You\u2019ve gotta become an American when you come here! You\u2019ve gotta want to become an American. You gotta make a modicum of effort to become an American here.<\/p>\n
‘Cause it\u2019s the greatest place on the planet, and we want to keep it that way!<\/p>\n
This is good for people who come here. It\u2019s not punishment for them to have to do this. It\u2019s what every immigrant in the past wanted when they came here. We simply reestablish that, and then we realize that immigration involves more than just people from the Southern Hemisphere. It involves people from Europe and Asia and everywhere. It\u2019s not oriented toward one group of people. You fight for it! You know you\u2019re gonna lose it with this current president and party, but you fight for it, and you give people a rallying cry. You define yourselves in the process, instead of simply running around and making it look like you also are trolling for votes, or that you want to be credited with compassion, and so forth.<\/p>\n
The Democrats own that.<\/p>\n
Nobody\u2019s gonna steal that away from \u2019em, on the Republican side.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Here\u2019s Alejandro be with Alejandro from Beaumont, Texas. I\u2019m glad you called. You\u2019re next to the program. Great to have you here.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Rush, a pleasure and honor to speak with you. As an immigrant from Argentina, I got here when I was 20 years old and I got — I apologize for the way I\u2019m speaking. I\u2019m really nervous. I listened to you on the radio as soon as I got in Miami, and you say something really profound. You always have to involve yourself with smart people and try to learn what they do, and then you say — try to find something to make a living that you really love. And when I got in here from Argentina, I actually was running away from a guy like Obama. We got free medicine, free everything in Argentina, and I\u2019m here, and what I accomplished in this country, believe me, there is no way in the world that you can accomplish as much as you can in this country.<\/p>\n
RUSH: For a while, I know.<\/p>\n
CALLER: I was a line cook. Today I own my own company, and I have a — we share a love. I just become a private pilot, and I bought my own little plane. And, I mean, I\u2019m ecstatic. I\u2019m super happy. And last year I got my citizenship just to go vote Obama out.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, God bless you, Alejandro. And I\u2019m gonna tell you something — I\u2019ve got 30 seconds here. But I think you said something profound, and you went by it pretty quickly, and I want to go back to it. He said, people like him come to this country to run away from the Obamas of their country. So he came here, and he found what he was looking for, he became successful, was able to buy a little airplane, and now he feels like he\u2019s back home. He feels like whatever he was running away from caught up to him.<\/p>\n
We\u2019ve had people the Eastern bloc who\u2019ve called and said the same things over the years. Alejandro, I\u2019m honored you\u2019re in the audience. I\u2019m glad you got through.<\/p>\n
