RUSH: Iowa City, Iowa, this is Betty, and welcome to the EIB Network. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi. Rush, Republicans have gotta learn from our own history. The only way Hawaii was admitted as a state, and it happened when I was in high school —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — was in a deal that Alaska had to be admitted at the same time, because I don\u2019t know what the debate was in Congress. I know what was said around my school. “Well, yeah, because Hawaii\u2019s Democrat, and Alaska\u2019s always gonna be Republican.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: So who told you that that\u2019s why they had to go at the same time?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, I just heard teachers talking. I went to a very — you know, this is a long time ago.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, but you were gonna relate that to something at present.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, at the present, why would Republicans go for admitting people who, as a group, are voting 70% against them? I mean, the Republicans and the Democrats —<\/p>\n

RUSH: That is the question of the day. That is the question of the day, and the answer befuddles me.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

CALLER: But, you know, I don\u2019t know. The Democrat Party has changed since I was in high school, and I guess the Republican Party has also. Because I was raised in a very traditional Democrat family. I worked for Bobby Kennedy, and I ended up voting for Ronald Reagan and have been a Republican ever since. <\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, wait a second. Now, wait, you keep opening doors that I have to go through here.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I didn\u2019t mean to. I\u2019m really, really concerned about immigration.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I know, I know, but you just equated Bobby Kennedy with Reagan.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, no.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Or at least you indicated they\u2019re not that far apart. You were once a Bobby Kennedyite, and then you ended up with Reagan. And I\u2019m telling you, there wasn\u2019t all that much commonality.<\/p>\n

CALLER: It\u2019s probably how —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah —<\/p>\n

CALLER: — it was perceived in the heartland.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Don\u2019t doubt me. I understand the Bobby Kennedy thing. Let me tell you something, a little story. I was in High School, this would be 1968 when Bobby Kennedy was Senator. I\u2019m 17-years-old and Bobby Kennedy came to our town, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for a rally. He was just driving through town, and a good friend of mine — not gonna mention his name — his family had a convertible, one of the only convertibles in town. That family was asked if Bobby Kennedy could use their car for the rally because it had a convertible. And they of course said yes. All they cared about, Bobby Kennedy. It was a pure cult. Bobby Kennedy was a precursor to Obama, in many ways. <\/p>\n

Bobby Kennedy, by the time he ran, he\u2019s coming off his brother having been assassinated and he was an empty canvas, people could make of him whatever they wanted. This is the guy that wiretapped Martin Luther King. This was the guy… what are you smirking at me for, Snerdley? Snerdley\u2019s in there, “Bobby Kennedy was perceived to be a genuine –” what do you mean genuine? You mean nice? That\u2019s my point. He was a real guy. He was the Kennedy that really cared about people. That\u2019s part of the mythology. I\u2019m telling you. I know I was only 17, but I\u2019ll never forget that campaign. I remember listening to people telling me about Bobby Kennedy and it didn\u2019t matter what he believed. It didn\u2019t matter. Just like it didn\u2019t matter with what Obama believed. People didn\u2019t care. They didn\u2019t even want to know. They just loved Bobby Kennedy. But look, I know this is not the main point you called about here. And Betty, I\u2019m not yelling at you, please, you gotta understand. You understand that, right?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m not yelling at you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, no, absolutely.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, you\u2019re not crying or anything, are you?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, no.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, okay.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

CALLER: No. Two of my brothers were in Vietnam —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Your original point was about Hawaii. Here\u2019s the interesting thing about Hawaii. They had a movement not long ago where they, in effect, can secede. They want to set up their own distinct unique culture and their senator, Senator Akaka, one of my all-time favorite senator names. I love the Senate roll call when they get to his name, “Senator Akaka…” He set it up. I forget the details. I got golf buddies in Hawaii, this was going on three or four years ago, we were out there playing golf in the June Jones tournament. June Jones, the coach of the University of Hawaii at the time, now at SMU. And this was all going on, and the native Hawaiians that I was playing with, said, “Gosh, we can\u2019t believe it. These are the people that asked to join this country and now they\u2019re trying to distance themselves and separate.” It was a big deal, the point. So just an added little item to your notion that Hawaii, they did ask to become a part of the country. Now, I did not know that somebody said, “Well, you better let Alaska in to balance out all the Democrats in Hawaii.”<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, the thing is, I don\u2019t know what was going on. I wasn\u2019t reading newspapers or listening to the radio. I was just in high school. I just know what —<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s no excuse. I was listening to the radio and reading and TV when I was in high school. What were you doing, baking?<\/p>\n

CALLER: (laughing) I was studying.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019m just kidding. I\u2019m not yelling at you, you understand that?<\/p>\n

CALLER: No.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You were studying, home ec. Going to dances? (laughing)<\/p>\n

CALLER: My mother was determined I was gonna go to college.<\/p>\n

RUSH: He-he-he-he-he.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I only had one.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Did you?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Huh?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Did you go to college?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Good! Terrific. I didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. Well —<\/p>\n

RUSH: I also didn\u2019t support Bobby Kennedy.<\/p>\n

CALLER: You what?<\/p>\n

RUSH: I didn\u2019t support Bobby Kennedy.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, you\u2019re right, it was sort of like coming out of a cult to the years after that, yeah. Especially —<\/p>\n

RUSH: That family wouldn\u2019t even clean the interior of the car where he sat.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s as close as you got to him?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I didn\u2019t go to the rally.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh. Yeah, it\u2019s —<\/p>\n

RUSH: It was at the Town Plaza, the Town Plaza Shopping Center. That\u2019s actually the name of it. There was a Woolworth\u2019s and an auto parts store and they called it a shopping center.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And a bank. Anyway, I appreciate the call. Betty, I hate to do this. Yeah, what was the point, Betty, why did you call?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I called because I don\u2019t understand why the Republican Party was smart enough to make sure that Alaska came in at the same time as Hawaii did? Why they were that smart then and they don\u2019t have a clue now.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: It is the $64,000 question. I\u2019m like you. I do not understand it. The math is the math, and the polling data is the polling data.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And there is literally no evidence to suggest that upon being granted citizenship anywhere near a majority of the Hispanics who are currently illegal aliens would vote Republican. There\u2019s no evidence whatsoever.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Not just talking about the illegals. You\u2019re talking about two generations after them will vote Democrat.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, of course. Of course. It\u2019s like the Cuban exile community. The adults, the at-present adults and the adults of the past number of years were just rock solid Republicans. The people who escaped Castro in \u201959, \u201960, \u201961, 60, went to Miami, rock solid Republican. Their kids voted Obama. The majority of their kids voted Obama, so her point here is, folks, it\u2019s not just the whatever number of illegals that we\u2019re talking about now that would be granted amnesty, 12 million is the popular number, but I\u2019ll bet that it\u2019s higher. They\u2019re gonna have kids, and that number\u2019s gonna multiply and what is it that the Republicans see there that none of us do, other than a chance? <\/p>\n

But if they\u2019re looking at it, okay, there\u2019s a whole brand-new universe, chance to approach \u2019em with our ideas and our beliefs. Well, okay, why don\u2019t you do that with existing citizens first and perfect the technique. I don\u2019t know. Betty, I have no idea what we talked about other than Bobby Kennedy, but I\u2019m glad you called. I appreciate it, and he did wiretap Martin Luther King, and he did all kinds of stuff. The Kennedys never got called on any of that stuff. He was attorney general, and he was a no nonsense — I mean, civil rights, civil liberties?
