RUSH: Here\u2019s Roger in West Plains, Missouri. Roger, I\u2019m glad you called. Great to have you on the program. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Rush, to start off with, I\u2019m a big fan of you, but I do owe you an apology. In 2007 and 2008, I was an Obama zombie, and I said some very bad things about you, and I\u2019d like to apologize for that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I didn\u2019t even know that you said them.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (chuckles) Well, I said them to just about anybody that would listen to me, and I have felt very bad about it since I came back to my senses. I can honestly say that Obama was the first Democrat president I had ever voted for, and I did it because I didn\u2019t like McCain, you know? That\u2019s pretty much why I did it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, now, but there\u2019s gotta be more to it than that. Otherwise you wouldn\u2019ta had such rotten things to say about me. I mean, you had to be under the Obama spell to some extent.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I was. I was hypnotized by Obama\u2019s voice. I\u2019m not a dumb guy, actually. I\u2019m fairly intelligent. I consider myself fairly intelligent and I feel like if it could happen to me, it can happen to a lot of people. I had friends that —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, how did it happen? What in the world…? Set aside the fact that you didn\u2019t support McCain. We all understand that, but Obama\u2019s the first Democrat you ever voted for? It has to be more than you just didn\u2019t like McCain. What was it?<\/line>CALLER: It\u2019s honestly the things he said. I believed what he said. I believed that he could help the country.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: You believed he was gonna end bipartisanship? He was gonna make the world love us again? He was gonna create jobs and going to put America back to work? You bought into all of that?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I honestly bought into all of that. I bought into the fact that we\u2019d have a black president would end racism.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, now, the next question I\u2019m gonna ask, I\u2019m not trying to put you on the spot. There\u2019s no wrong answer. I\u2019m not trying to set you up. I\u2019m genuinely curious. Were you listening to me during that period of time, during the campaign of 2008?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, I was.<\/p>\n

<\/a>RUSH: Okay, then you heard me trying to tell you… You may not have heard specifically but I said numerous times, “The election of Barack Obama is going to exacerbate race relations. It\u2019s gonna get worse. He is not gonna fix the economy.” That\u2019s why I said, “I hope he fails.” Did you hear me say those things? If you did, they had to obviously make you mad. You probably thought I was full of it. You\u2019re thinking, “Racism could be ended here with this election!”<\/p>\n

CALLER: I thought you were a racist. I have to admit, I thought you were racist, that\u2019s why I stopped listening to you. It\u2019s like I told my cousin. I said, “I\u2019ve started listening to Rush again.” This was last summer. “I\u2019ve gotta call him and apologize for everything I said about him.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: What is it that brought you back?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Um. (chuckles) Honestly, Obama. The things that he\u2019s not done, the things that he said he was gonna do, the fact that we\u2019re almost $17 trillion in debt.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, here\u2019s another question. You said you\u2019re an intelligent guy, and I believe you. Does it not bother you how easily you got hoodwinked?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, yes!<\/p>\n

RUSH: Because I\u2019m telling you, it was easy for me to predict what was gonna happen, and I predicted it, and it was easy for me to tell you, “By the way, this isn\u2019t gonna end racism. It\u2019s only gonna make it worse. Because any criticism of him is gonna be said to be racist. It\u2019s gonna make it worse. It isn\u2019t gonna solve anything.” You thought I was a racist saying that. Now you\u2019ve obviously come to see that that was correct. The interesting thing with you is, by your own admission, you\u2019re a smart guy, and it worked on you. All of that emotional reaching out, that emotional “hope and change,” worked on you, and it lasted for three or four years until you saw the light.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, it did. My entire family, nobody voted for him. Everybody has criticized me ever since for voting for him that first time, and I defended him to my family. I said bad things to my own mother because she didn\u2019t like him!<\/p>\n

RUSH: Look, I know so many people like you. You\u2019re one of the few to admit it, really, but I\u2019m glad that you called. You don\u2019t need to apologize. I understand it. (interruption) Well, of course I forgive him. I\u2019m a forgiving guy. Let me ask you before you go, Roger. Did you vote for Obama in 2012?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Heck, no!<\/p>\n

RUSH: Heck, no?<\/p>\n

CALLER: (chuckles) Absolutely not.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019ve actually stopped watching the lame-stream media. I don\u2019t watch any of it anymore.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you know, I\u2019m not trying to guilt you, but you have to be blamed partially for the state the country\u2019s in. You helped make it happen.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, I know I did.<\/p>\n

RUSH: (laughing)<\/p>\n

CALLER: I know I did, and I have been trying to atone for it ever since.<\/p>\n
