RUSH: Here\u2019s David in Tulsa. It\u2019s great to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hey. Good afternoon, Rush. Yeah, my brother called me up. He lives in Washington, DC, and there\u2019s an uprising going on there with the city council. As you know, they\u2019re trying to impose an artificial minimum wage on Walmart, and Walmart\u2019s threatening to cancel six stores that they\u2019re gonna open there. He\u2019s one of the citizen who\u2019s, obviously, gonna try to apply for a job there. The city council has miscalculated big time, because the citizens know that Walmart\u2019s not bluffing about closing those stores, and they\u2019re more than happy to work for the minimum wage \u2019cause they know it\u2019s not gonna be their salary or their wage forever.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s not just that. It\u2019s not just that, David. It\u2019s not just that Walmart\u2019s an employer. Walmart\u2019s where you go to get cheaper things. If Walmart pulls out of there, it obviously takes a lot of jobs with it. But it also takes low prices.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, absolutely. And the stores who are in the area, they want the foot traffic that the Walmart stores are gonna bring. They\u2019re not concerned about the competition. They\u2019re saying, “Hey, that\u2019s gonna bring more people that are gonna walk to our door.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right, let me ask you a question. You\u2019re saying that you\u2019re hearing a lot of citizens in DC are furious about Walmart pulling out. Who are they mad at?<\/p>\n

CALLER: They\u2019re mad at the city council —<\/p>\n

RUSH: A-ha.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — for wanting to impose the artificial minimum wage.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Are they really?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, absolutely. Yeah. My brother said that his friends are furious, and people are talking about it on the news. People are calling City Hall and saying, “Hey, look. You know, Walmart\u2019s not bluffing. They make the profit that they have without those six stores.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: But the city council is gonna try to get the population all angry at Walmart for pulling out.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah, but it\u2019s backfiring on \u2019em. The citizens know that Walmart is not bluffing. They\u2019re saying, “Look, we want the jobs. We want the work.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, I\u2019ll tell you, I —<\/p>\n

CALLER: “We want to be able to shop.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: I would hope that\u2019s true, but I don\u2019t know. I just have so many doubts about places run by Democrats. I mean, the people in those towns elect these people. They must believe what they say. I don\u2019t know. I hope you\u2019re right. I hope what you\u2019ve heard is right, David, that they\u2019re angry at the city council. Hell, the city council doesn\u2019t even pay that wage to anybody, and they\u2019re demanding others do?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just Walmart, either. It\u2019s all big box stores that happen to be Walmart\u2019s size. There aren\u2019t very many, but they don\u2019t have unions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
