CALLER: Thank you, sir. I tell you what, I have to admit, I\u2019m a discouraged, pessimistic American. I\u2019m ashamed to say that because I was raised to be optimistic.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And today it seems to me that we\u2019re just on the precipice of going over. I don\u2019t know what can be done. I mean, you say we need policies. The Republican Party is obsolete, in my opinion. I think the only policy we need is, as you say, the Constitution. I\u2019m just finishing up reading the Federalist Papers. And to see the arguments that took place back in the —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Let me give you something else to read. Have you heard of Mark Levin\u2019s new book, The Liberty Amendments?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, I have. I\u2019ve ordered it from Amazon and it hasn\u2019t arrived yet.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, well, read it when it does. It\u2019s fascinating. Everybody still asks me, “Rush what can I do, besides vote?” Everybody wants to do something. Well, look, the standard, ordinary give-and-take and back-and-forth of politics isn\u2019t gonna work anymore. The Constitution\u2019s broken. We\u2019re not living under it anymore. It\u2019s already been bastardized. The Constitution is going to have to be put back together. It\u2019s going to have to be reaffirmed. It\u2019s already being torn apart. It\u2019s being shredded. It\u2019s being ignored by this president who just chooses which law and what part of a law he wants to obey or not.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, he\u2019s the nearest thing to a despot that we\u2019ve ever elected.<\/p>\n

RUSH: True. Woodrow Wilson, a close second, followed by his wife when Woodrow had the stroke or whatever. But the thing about The Liberty Amendments is that the premise is the Founders understood that what we are going through today was very possible, and they had a prescription to fix it. There are remedies for this. The remedy is not the Republican Party, not as it\u2019s currently constituted or operating. The American people are going to have to fix this, and that\u2019s what Levin\u2019s book is about. It\u2019s a wonderful book. <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t want to say it\u2019s simple, but it makes so much sense. He proposes 10 amendments that simply reaffirm the original intent of the Constitution and then gives a thorough explanation for why each amendment is in fact justified and warranted and traces it back to the days of the founding. And it is something that, the more people read it, the more people become familiar with it and demand that something be done to reaffirm and strengthen the Constitution, it\u2019s something like this that is going to be necessary, because the Constitution is broken. We cannot rely on it now.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Look, folks, the Founders of this country never, ever intended that one judge determines the law of the land. John Roberts and Obamacare, Anthony Kennedy on whatever the issue. This was never intended. So much of what is happening now was not intended. Presidents don\u2019t have the right to pick and choose what parts of legislation they like and implement that and deny other parts. The American people have the power to change this, but not at the ballot box. At least that\u2019s one of the theories of The Liberty Amendments. The Constitution is going to have to be reaffirmed and a new reminder to elected officials of what the law is is going to have to be made. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

One of the points in the book is that the states, the amendment process is right there in Article V, how to deal with out-of-control administrations, how to deal with leaders that are abrogating and denying the Constitution, shredding it. It\u2019s right there. The Founders are brilliant. They knew what they were doing. They weren\u2019t just devising a formula for life during their era. They were devising a structure for all time, and, as such, they were able, \u2019cause they understood human nature, they were able to understand exactly how despotism happens, dictatorship happens, usurpation of freedom by governments, how it happens. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s why the country came into existence. And there is a recipe, there\u2019s a formula, there\u2019s a prescription in the Constitution for addressing the problems we have today and fixing them. And it involves the states. In our Constitution, the states, particularly banded together, have far more power than the federal government, and the people, and it\u2019s going to have to happen. And it\u2019s gonna be slow in coming. This is gonna be resisted by the current ruling class. They\u2019re not gonna want any part of this. So it\u2019s gonna have to effervesce from the grassroots up. <\/p>\n

There are a lot of grassroots efforts taking place right now simply because of the realization that there is not — I don\u2019t think there\u2019s a single mechanism in Washington that\u2019s structured right now and oriented toward addressing the real problems that we have. Mounting debt. I mean, this was never intended. This was never thought to be acceptable. Never. This kind of thing is what was supposed to not happen. In almost every venue, almost every area of government, the EPA, all these bureaucracies, able to write their own laws and regulations without going through the representatives of the people. That was never intended. That was never part of the plan. <\/p>\n

The Constitution\u2019s bastardized. It\u2019s been bastardized for years. It\u2019s been shredded for years. It needs to be reaffirmed. And Levin\u2019s book is a series of ideas of how to do it that involves the American people. The Liberty Amendments<\/a>. There are 10 of them. And I don\u2019t want to go through all of them for you here, but one of them actually term limits judges, 12 years, Supreme Court. That\u2019s it. There\u2019s no reason we need some babbling idiot that can\u2019t add two and two anymore on the court. <\/line><\/p>\n

Some people are afraid that once you convene a meeting, a convention, to start amending the Constitution, that you\u2019re opening the door to the left. This is dealt with in the book as well. I don\u2019t want to give everything away. But that is dealt with. Keep in mind, too, that the left wants to do this themselves. They\u2019re not happy. The reason the Constitution\u2019s being shredded and the reason it\u2019s being shredded and bastardized, it\u2019s by them, and they don\u2019t like it. The Constitution doesn\u2019t give them enough power. The Constitution, as written, grants all the power to the people and all the power to the states. That\u2019s unacceptable. <\/p>\n

They want their new Bill of Rights. They want 10 brand-new amendments that specifically spell out the power that government has over us. The Bill of Rights as written, of course, limit the federal government\u2019s power, and that\u2019s why they exist.
