He\u2019s on 60 Minutes with Charlie Rose on Sunday night.  Let\u2019s go to the sound bites.  This is pretty good.  Charlie Rose says, &#8220;Every time a new Amazon center goes up, Jeff, publishers and traditional retailers shudder.  They get scared, Jeff.  A lot of small book<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">publishers and other smaller companies worry that the power of Amazon gives them no chance.&#8221;  You\u2019re coming in here and you\u2019re selling things at practically no profit margin, Jeff.  You\u2019re practically giving things away at cost.  How in the world can these people keep up with you, Jeff?  It just isn\u2019t fair.  It\u2019s not right.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">BEZOS:  You gotta earn your keep in this world.  When you invent something new, if customers come to the party, it\u2019s disruptive to the old way.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">ROSE:  Yeah, but there are areas where your power is so great and your margin, you\u2019re prepared to make it so thin, that you can drive people out of business, and you have that kind of strength, and people worry, is Amazon ruthless in their purest of market share?<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">BEZOS:  The Internet is disrupting every media industry, Charlie.  You know, people can complain about that, but complaining is not a strategy.  Amazon is not happening to book selling.  The future is happening to book selling.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\"><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/common\/video\/cbsnews_player.swf\" scale=\"noscale\" salign=\"lt\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" background=\"#000000\" width=\"585\" height=\"279\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowScriptAccess=\"always\" FlashVars=\"type=embed&amp;si=254&amp;pid=fY2cQBTRQRdg&amp;url=http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/videos\/amazons-jeff-bezos-looks-to-the-future \/><\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">RUSH:  I tell you, folks, I know Bezos donates to leftist causes.  This is one of these curious things that doesn\u2019t really make a whole lot of sense just on the surface.  You dig deep, you find out why he does it.  But this is unfettered capitalism. This guy is a primo competitor, and they do sell things with very little margin.  In fact, it\u2019s been something very curious on Wall Street Journal.  Amazon doesn\u2019t report great earnings.  They don\u2019t have any great earnings.  They\u2019ve got market share.  They\u2019ve got a massive sales volume.  But their profits are minuscule because their margins are so small.  They\u2019re just going on the volume basis. <\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">Their stock has been skyrocketing, and a lot of people have assumed &#8212; this is the brilliance of this guy &#8212; a lot of people have assumed that Bezos is a great humanitarian, that he cares about the poor and the little guy. Look at the prices he charges.  He\u2019s practically giving this stuff away, and look at some of these other retailers, charging everybody an eye and a nose and everything else. And good old Jeff, he\u2019s been characterized as a compassionate, feeling, understanding guy who\u2019s practically giving everything away.  Walmart does the same thing, but they\u2019re evil, but that\u2019s because Walmart donates to conservative causes, or did. <\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" xhtml:id=\"eZObject_84453\" class=\"aligncenter\" align=\"middle\" src=\"https:\/\/live-rush-limbaugh.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/RushCapitalismBezos.jpg\"\/>But Bezos, he lives in Seattle, he\u2019s bald, he looks good as a lib.  He fits the bill.  Soap opera again.  But the truth is, this guy\u2019s ruthless.  This guy doesn\u2019t care if every competitor goes out of business.  That, in fact, is the name of the game &#8212; and then watch what happens to his margins when he ends up the only place that you can go to get whatever it is you want, and then those margins are gonna skyrocket. This is what his investors know. <\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">But when he says, &#8220;You gotta earn your keep in this world,&#8221; oh, man! At Think Progress, they ought to be trying to excommunicate this guy.  At the Center for American Progress, at the White House, every left-wing liberal establishment, those words, &#8220;You gotta earn your keep in this world,&#8221; and &#8220;When you invent something new, customers come to the party, it\u2019s gonna disrupt the old way&#8221;?<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">&#8220;Yeah, yeah, but you run mom-and-pops out of business, Jeff.&#8221; <\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">&#8220;Not my problem.  They can\u2019t compete?  Too bad.&#8221;<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">And then they weren\u2019t through, Charlie and Jeff Bezos. Just one more sound bite here, folks.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">BEZOS:  Let me show you something.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">ROSE:  Oh, man!  Oh, my GOD!<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">BEZOS:  This &#8212; this is&#8230; These are octacopters.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">ROSE:  Yeah?<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">BEZOS:  These are, uh, effectively drones, but there\u2019s no reason that they can\u2019t be used as delivery vehicles.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">ROSE: (chortling)<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">BEZOS: I know this looks like science fiction.  It\u2019s not.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">ROSE:  Wow!<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" xhtml:id=\"eZObject_84446\" class=\"alignright\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/live-rush-limbaugh.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/amazonDrone.jpg\"\/>BEZOS:  These are electric motors.  So this is all electric.  It\u2019s very green.  It\u2019s better than driving trucks around.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">RUSH:  Ah, he\u2019s back now in favor with the left. After just illustrating he\u2019s ruthless and bloodthirsty and careless, has no concern about his competitors, now he\u2019s worried the environment.  Yes! So he\u2019s back in good graces.  He\u2019s got these mini-drones.  Have you seen one, a picture?  Well, they\u2019re about five or six inches square.  They got little platforms on \u2019em, and grips on the bottom where a package of certain weight could be held and it\u2019s gonna fly to your house. <\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">If you live within 10 miles of a distribution center for Amazon, it\u2019ll fly to your house.  But, you know, where\u2019s it gonna land?  Is it gonna land on your roof, gonna land on your sidewalk, gonna land on your driveway, backyard?  How many of \u2019em literally are gonna get shot down?  Do you understand, there will be people who have no idea&#8230; No matter what, no matter how widely broadcast the news of these things is, there are going to be people have no clue, and they\u2019re gonna look up and they\u2019re gonna see swarms of these things, and it\u2019s gonna be hilarious.<\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">One thing I think we all have to keep in mind here: These drones may actually never be used because of this thing called lawyers. <\/p>\n<paragraph xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">We\u2019ll just have to wait and see.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RUSH: Jeff Bezos.
