CALLER: Hi, Rush. I just wanted to thank you for your book Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims<\/a>.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ah. Thank you!<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. It\u2019s a resource that I didn\u2019t have as a child. I\u2019m Native American and white, and I\u2019m so glad it\u2019s available to my son, who\u2019s 7 years old. As a child I was taught kind of by society to be ashamed of my white side, especially because I\u2019m also Native American, and my parents taught me otherwise, but I still had this kind of internal struggle, I guess you could call it, and so I\u2019m just so glad that my son has the resource and I can read it to him, and —<\/p>\n

RUSH: I am so happy to hear you —<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: — mention this, because we went to great lengths to create that character, and to have that character be understood by people, kids reading the book. It\u2019s an honest and true reflection of what happened back then.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. And he loves it, you know, and it was funny \u2019cause shortly before we started reading the book we happened to watch the Disney movie Pocahontas.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And I hadn\u2019t watched it since I was a child, and I just noticed in there that the depiction of the white people, the settlers that came to the land is that they came here for gold and greed, and there\u2019s actually a line in there that refers to them as ravenous wolves consuming everything in their path. It was terrible and I just wanted to turn the movie off and shortly after that I was like, “I just have to get his book,” and teach my child the truth about why the Pilgrims came here and the blessings we have because of that. So I\u2019m grateful that he has this resource besides just me telling him in his ear the truth.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I understand. The parents never know.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: At a certain age, the parents are never right. It\u2019s always takes a third or fourth source.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right, yeah.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, look, I really appreciate that. I just announced on Friday the next Rush Revere book.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, great!<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, yeah, it\u2019s available for pre-order now. We just announced it on Friday. Rush Revere and the First Patriots<\/a>. It\u2019s not a sequel, but it picks up another area of American history. It\u2019s the same characters, just going to different parts and places of American history, and I just wanted to let you know, just wanted to remind everybody that it\u2019s up for sale now at all the usual places for pre-order, and on sale on March the 11th. RUSH: Oh, the title of the book is Rush Revere and the First Patriots. Among other things, young readers will be introduced to Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry — and, in one of my favorite parts of the book, Rush Revere gets into an argument and debate with King George III over his treatment of the colonists. Folks, it is so… I\u2019ve gotta be very quiet about this \u2019cause it is one of the most important teachable moments of the book. <\/line><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/map>\n<\/line>\n

It does not have any political overtone to it, yet it teaches the truth about freedom versus tyranny to young people in language they will understand. This device is great: A substitute teacher, Rush Revere (the spokesman for Two If By Tea<\/a>) and his time-traveling horse that can talk, and they go to anywhere in American history that it takes them. That was such a fundamentally important part of this, put in the words of the king and his thoughts of these colonists and how insignificant they are. <\/p>\n

Well, to them the only thing that matters is their freedom and liberty and how he doesn\u2019t… I don\u2019t want to give too much of it away, but it\u2019s written for kids, obviously, between ages 10 to 13. It\u2019s for everybody, as I say. The second book is part of a mission, and it\u2019s for everybody. I think that adults, too, are gonna learn some things about the incidents in this book.<\/p>\n

Just as they did the first book, they\u2019ll learn things that they didn\u2019t know because they weren\u2019t taught. So it\u2019s a plus-plus all the way around. I just want to reiterate that it was made available for pre-order on Friday. Rush Revere and the First Patriots<\/a>. The Boston Tea Party is one of the focal points. It covers a lot.
