RUSH: Here’s Joe in Carterville, Illinois. Joe, I’m glad you waited. Really great to have you here. Hello.
CALLER: Rush, southern Illinois, disabled Air Force vet dittos. I got to serve for Reagan. I know Professor Snerdley told me to get right on it, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that my wife’s birthday is August 1st. That coincides with your show’s anniversary.
RUSH: That’s perfectly fine. Many happy returns to her.
CALLER: Okay. And this is an early birthday present for me. I’ll be 50 in November. So, anyway, you were talking about —
RUSH: Well, you’re just a young punk. You’re gonna be 50?
CALLER: Yeah, yeah. Well, I live about a stone’s throw from “Cape Mecca” over there, so please don’t blame us all in Illinois for Dick.
RUSH: All right. I won’t.
CALLER: Okay. Anyway, if you don’t… I’m not talking about beating or bruising or causing injuries to kids, but it’s your responsibility as a parent to take care of them and teach them and guide them responsibly. So if they are getting ready to touch a hot stove, you may have to smack their hand. You may have to snatch, grab ’em out of the way of a car or something.
RUSH: I know.
CALLER: I mean, I’m not talking about beating or bruising, but you may have to smack them. And I do believe in using a belt.
RUSH: Look, everything has become a matter of extremes. The left, in order to gain control of all this, has had to accuse standard, ordinary, everyday parents of engaging in child abuse when they abuse their kids. The leaving welts and bruises is the exception. The thing is, the human being is the only mammal that must be raised. It must be taught right and wrong.
It must be exposed, the human being must be exposed to morality. It must have been exposed to boundaries. Young people especially, whether they know it or not, want to know the boundaries. They want to know where “no” begins. They want to know where right and wrong begins. This is not true in the rest of the animal world. A baby horse, for example, is born able to walk.
Your favorite pets at six weeks can leave their parents never again to even know who they were, nor care. The human being is an entirely different matter. Child rearing, for those who have kids, it’s the most important job they’ve got, depending how seriously it’s taken. My parents wanted me to take piano lessons like a lot of parents back in that era did.
Becoming educated in music and able to play it was considered part of a wide-ranging and thorough education. We had a piano teacher in town that routinely slapped your fingers with a ruler if you got the wrong note, in order to condition you not to make mistakes. No blood. No welts. That teacher today would be in jail. I didn’t want to get slapped on the hand.
I guarantee you, I tried to get better. I hated it, I didn’t want to do it, and I eventually — after three years — I said, “Bye-bye. I’ll be happy to listen to this instrument from now on. I don’t need to play it.” Spankings and all this kind of thing? There are certain things here that are just no longer acceptable because the left has gotten hold of things.
BREAK TRANSCRIPT
RUSH: Joe in Cedar Rapids, Idaho, it’s great to have you on the EIB Network and Open Line Friday. Hi.
CALLER: Hey, Rush! Where’s Eric Holder when we need him?
RUSH: (laughing)
CALLER: Should he not be sending 40 FBI agents and investigators to the NFL to see why they’re targeting these top-shelf black athletes rather than anyone else?
RUSH: Now, this is an interesting, interesting question. You raise an interesting aspect of this. You want to know… If I understood you correctly, you want to know: Why the Department of Justice is not investigating somebody — the NFL, the media? Why are only black athletes being targeted here on the subject of child abuse and spousal abuse?
CALLER: That’s correct. That’s correct.
RUSH: Well, what do you think is the reason? Eric Holder’s not gonna go anywhere near or touch this, but what do you think others who might be involved in moving this forward are thinking about this?
CALLER: Well, as you have taught us so diligently, there’s always a political component to everything that they do.
RUSH: That’s right.
CALLER: Everything that he says, everything he does. So the reason that we haven’t heard anything from the emperor or from his lawless attorney general is because it doesn’t fit the template as to what they’re trying to advance at this particular time.
RUSH: Right. What is that template that it doesn’t fit?
CALLER: Well, the template that it doesn’t fit is that the American people are, as a whole, racist, and that we have no tolerance for the young black men in the community and that we have to bring justice —
RUSH: See, he’s dancing all around it. He doesn’t want to really say it. He wants me to say it.
CALLER: Of course he does. (laughing)
RUSH: That’s… (laughing)
CALLER: (laughing)
RUSH: See, I’m the host, and I take the arrows, and I take the hits. He wants me to say what he’s dancing around. What would that be? What is it that he wants me to say? Let me put it to you this way. Let me try it this way. (interruption) Yeah, I’m gonna dance around it. I’m gonna dance around it in such a way that you can conclude it without me saying it.
I’m a professional broadcaster, a highly trained specialist. I should be able to pull this off. I want you to conclude, without me saying anything, what he’s talking about. Remember, the caller started this. In fact (shouting), JOE IN CEDAR RAPIDS, IDAHO! Cedar Rapids, Idaho or Iowa? There is no Cedar Rapids, Iowa. (interruption) Yeah. As far as Snerdley’s concerned, Iowa and Idaho, are the same place. It’s way north up there and he’s never going there.
So what Joe here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is saying is, “Wait a minute. This doesn’t fit. Normally the people being targeted here are victims. And now, in this circumstance, the Drive-Bys, their protectors, have all of a sudden turned them into targets. And, wait a minute, that… No. That’s not fitting. A, that doesn’t happen, we’re told; B, it shouldn’t happen.” So, “Oh, no. What are we gonna do to get out of this?”
Because this doesn’t fit with everything else.
This doesn’t fit with, take your recent story. Pick one. (interruption) Okay. You want to compare this to the gentle giant, Snerdley? Well, that’s… It’s exactly right. I told you I was chatting with a buddy of mine last night about this. He was asking me, how do I do this show every day, ’cause the news is so depressing, and it seems like there’s just no end in sight to the Democrats winning whatever they decide they want to win.
He’s asked me how do I do this with a positive attitude, and I told him I had it all figured out. So, therefore, I don’t have exorbitantly high expectations that I’m let down by every day. I said to him, “You realize that in this NFL story, there’s something that is gonna be figured out here real soon by the people that are responsible for this. They’re gonna take a look at mug shots and they’re gonna go, ‘Uh-oh,’ and then they’re gonna start searching.
“They’re gonna need…” (chuckles)
You fill in the blank. Because the caller here (shouting) JOE FROM CEDAR RAPIDS is exactly right. People who are normally portrayed as victims of an unjust, unfair country have all of a sudden become the targets, and this puts everybody in an uncomfortable position — in the media, at the DOJ, in academia, and of course at the National Action Network, and of course at the Monochrome Coalition.
