School Dinner is About Union Jobs

RUSH: St. Petersburg, Florida, I guess, is next. Brian, welcome to the program. Great to have you here.

CALLER: Hello, Rush. Got bless you, buddy. It’s great to talk to you.

RUSH: Thank you.

CALLER: I’m so mad, Rush. I cannot handle the uninformed or the misinformed and the ignorant much longer. I’m so mad I could play horseshoes with the horse still in the shoes.

RUSH: (laughing)

CALLER: What I’m calling about is on the one side you have the United States Department of Agriculture —

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: — tell us that families are starving all across the country, so here’s food stamps. In the (garbled) you have the Memphis School District telling us that kids are now going home without supper so we gotta feed ’em dinner as well —

RUSH: Could you believe that story? Hang on just a second, Brian. I had that story yesterday and they started out with this 11-year-old kid and it’s all about he can’t just survive with a snack at two o’clock.

CALLER: Right.

RUSH: He won’t make it. He’s got to have dinner from the school before he gets home.

CALLER: Well, that’s just… I was listening yesterday. That’s why I heard it from you, and it made me so mad I just wanted to leap off my balcony; and then you have on the far side of this story Michelle Obama running around telling all our children they’re fat, they’re obese, they’re lazy, and need to eat right — and it occurred to me that I guess the government feeds our children breakfast lunch and dinner in your little indoctrination centers which justifies them teaching finances in kindergarten to explain to them how they’re all, you know, selfish and if they earn any money they probably stole it. But on the one hand you have Michelle telling us that our kids are all fat and what have you. What I guess the truth of the matter is: Unless less government feeds our children, then we’re going to subject them to a lifetime of fats, high cholesterol, hardened arteries, and a lifetime of misery if we make these choices.

RUSH: (laughing)

CALLER: The hypocrisy has gotten to a level that I just can’t take it.

RUSH: I’m on the same page with you Brian. That whole story it just threw me, because it’s breakfast, lunch — and there “snacks,” don’t forget — and now dinner at school! Why do we even need homes? Why even send the kids home? The parents are absolved of any responsibility for them. I think kids get produced and parents go off and live their lives like they want to the schools take care of the kids and Michelle feeds them and they get fat, sloppy, and happy just like you say.

CALLER: We had hot dog day on Tuesdays, Rush —

RUSH: (laughing)

CALLER: — and four days a week we had a sack with peanut butter and jelly.

RUSH: I know. But we gotta resist the old fogy generation here, Brian, because every generation did that. My parents did it. My grandparents had to walk to school with no shoes in 20 feet of snow stuff, and we all just laughed at ’em hearing these stories about their hardships. But I can tell you: My mother gave me a quarter every day for school lunch.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Just so you know, this school dinner business, just so that you understand this, the push for this is from the Service Employees International Union. It’s a union deal because they run the kitchens. They run the kitchens, school cafeterias, and providing dinner at the schools gives the SEIU more employees and more wages, and therefore more union dues, which end up where? Circuitously right back at the Democrat Party, which authors the legislation, or writes the legislation, or stamps the approval on the presidential executive order or what have you. It’s a union energized, organized thing, and it’s going to happen more and more. That was the whole point of the story.

In Memphis, remember, the female reporterette was just all beside herself happy, there wasn’t one person in the story she talked to that might have a differing opinion about it, conceptually. (imitating reporter) “Look at what our government’s doing for us next, isn’t it wonderful? And here right here in Memphis, a little 11-year-old boy who told everybody that would listen that a snack wasn’t enough to get him through the day. At two o’clock, had to have dinner, and look what the federal government is doing, responding, what a wonderful country,” which was the point of the story. And of course how do you oppose this? I mean who can be opposed to feeding hungry children? What kind of monster would oppose that? Remember Bill Clinton, when Dole laid into him in a ’96 presidential debate, Clinton said, “No attack ever fed a hungry child.” Well, you could say that here.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: We were talking about the SEIU moments ago. They are the union behind the push for school dinner. Now, nobody knows that. As far as the media’s concerned, the push for school dinner is based on the fact that it’s the only nice thing to do. We got starving kids, kids can’t survive with just a snack from two o’clock until dinner, so the schools have to come in here and do something. As a culture, as a society, we just can’t have starving children. Not right. But it’s the union behind it. More jobs, cafeteria workers, so forth and so on. More union dues.

Now, in light of that, a story here at Washington Examiner. This is an amazing story, the stuff in this story. This story is about the tentacles of union dues, the way the tentacles of union dues can stretch into federal government in an unstoppable quest to collect money for an agenda.

“If you’re a parent who accepts Medicaid payments from the State of Michigan to help support your mentally-disabled adult children, you qualify as a state employee for the purposes of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).” If you’re a parent, if you’re not a member of a union — stick with me on — this was part of the discussion we were all having with the elections about union pensions, salaries, and so forth, in the state of Michigan, Governor Walker.

If you are a parent and you have a mentally-disabled adult child, and thus you accept Medicaid payments, you are now, whether you want to be or not, a state employee for the purposes of the SEIU, and they, the union, can now claim and receive a portion of your Medicaid in the form of union dues. Does this make sense? Is this understandable? I mean it sounds so incredible. It’s not complicated, it just sounds unbelievable. You are a parent, Joe Schmo, and your wife Molly Schmo, and you have a mentally-disabled adult child, and so you accept Medicaid payment. Guess what? You are now a member of the SEIU. You have no choice, and a portion of what Medicaid gives you to care for your child now gets thrown back to SEIU in the form of union dues. That money then ends up back in the traditional money laundering operation, the Democrat Party.

“Robert and Patricia Haynes live in Michigan with their two adult children, who have cerebral palsy. The state government provides the family with insurance through Medicaid, but also treats them as caregivers. For the SEIU, this makes them public employees and thus members of the union, which receives $30 out of the family’s monthly Medicaid subsidy.” That’s what is deducted from your Medicare payment and given to the SEIU as your union dues.

“The Michigan Quality Community Care Council (MQC3) deducts union dues on behalf of SEIU. Michigan Department of Community Health Director Olga Dazzo explained the process to members of her staff. ‘MQC3 basically runs the program for SEIU and passes the union dues from the state to the union,’ she wrote in an email obtained by the Mackinac Center. Initiated in 2006 under then-Gov. Jennifer Granholm, D-Mich., the plan reportedly provides the SEIU with $6 million annually in union dues deducted from those Medicaid subsidies,” or payments. “‘We’re not even home health care workers. We’re just parents taking care of our kids,’ Robert Haynes, a retired Detroit police officer, told the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. ‘Our daughter is 34 and our son is 30. They have cerebral palsy. They are basically like 6-month-olds in adult bodies. They need to be fed and they wear diapers. We could sure use that $30 a month that’s being sent to the union.’ “According to the Mackinac Center, the theoretical public employer for whom the Haynes’ work is the Michigan Quality Community Care Council (MQC3), an entity within the DCH that continues to operate, even though the state legislature has defunded it. Even the MQC3 calls the families hiring in-home health care providers ’employers of providers,’ but these health care providers are also treated as employers of MQC3 when it comes time each month to take dues out of their Medicaid payment and send it to the SEIU. Mr. and Mrs. Haynes, of course, are both the parents (the employer) and the health care providers for their children, but they still lose money to the SEIU every month, despite having no interest in joining the union. They have been arbitrarily classified as state employees so that the union can take money from them.”

I remember warning people this was on the agenda, this was coming down the pike, heading down the tracks, and now it’s happened, and it’s just been instituted, or applied. You can’t opt out. You automatically become a member of the SEIU, without a vote, even. There’s no card check here. If you take Medicaid, federal money, state money, government money, you take it for a mentally-disabled child, 30 bucks of it every month siphoned off as union dues ’cause you’re now a member of SEIU. And that total in Michigan, what they collect, is $6 million. I don’t know if that’s just Michigan or if it’s more states than that.

As I say, I’m gonna repeat this, the arrangement began in 2006 under Granholm reportedly provides SEIU with an annual haul of $6 million for their union coffers which are then used to elect Democrats who are more than willing to return the favors. It’s been going on for years right in front of our faces, we just haven’t characterized it properly, but we do now. Money laundering. It’s how the unions get money and then give a portion of it back to the federal government, Democrats, for their continued reelection. This is pretty brazen, folks, but it’s happening, and it won’t stop in the state of Michigan until people get active and stop it some way. It’s gonna require legislation, obviously, that’s going to cause more fights just like what happened in Michigan and in Ohio this week.
