RUSH: Here’s the first Romney sound bite in Roanoke, Virginia.

ROMNEY: You want four more years like the last four years?

CROWD: No!

ROMNEY: I mean, do you want four more years where 23 million Americans are struggling to have a good job?

CROWD: No!

ROMNEY: Do you want four more years where earnings are going down every year?

CROWD: No!

ROMNEY: Do you want four more years of trillion-dollar deficits in Washington?

CROWD: No!

ROMNEY: How about four more years of gridlock in Washington?

CROWD: No!

ROMNEY: There’s no question in my view that we really can’t have four more years like the last four years. I know that the Obama folks are chanting, “Four more years! Four more years!” But our chant is this: “Five more days.” “Five more days” is our chant. (cheers and applause) (crowd chanting “Five more days!”)

RUSH: When Romney finished, Obama landed at Green Bay, and he gave his speech. I got the sound bites from it. There wasn’t anywhere near this crowd energy. Nowhere near it. Now, that’s what we call anecdotal. It’s not scientific. Therefore it doesn’t mean anything. It would be like me trying to tell you that my brother called me last night and said his neighbor said X and so therefore that means Romney’s gonna — you can’t do that. But I’m just saying, the energy at Obama’s appearance was nothing like this. I really like this next bite.

ROMNEY: I know the president’s been trying to figure out some way to suggest he’s got some new ideas because with all these people out of work, with three million more women in poverty today than when he took office, with 15 more million people on food stamps than when he took office, he’s got to find something to suggest it’s gonna be better over the next four years. And so he came up with an idea last week, which is he’s gonna create the Department of Business.

CROWD: (Laughter)

ROMNEY: I don’t think adding a new chair in his cabinet will help add millions of jobs on Main Street.

RUSH: But you know something else about that? Stop and think. Here is a guy in New Jersey who says the fastest way to solve the problem is to get government out of everybody’s life. Government waivers, get rid of the bureaucracy, get rid of all the stuff in government that blocks you. What’s he want to do? A secretary of business? We are supposed to have a president who understands business. We don’t need a secretary of business. Only somebody like an Obama who doesn’t understand it, doesn’t care to, doesn’t like it, even. I mean, that’s embarrassing. A secretary of business? It’s like job training centers. Yeah, they’re called high schools. What in the world do we need job training centers for? They’re called colleges. Secretary of business? And we got time to squeeze one more Romney sound bite in.

ROMNEY: Unfortunately, what you’re seeing before your very eyes is a campaign that keeps on shrinking and shrinking and shrinking to smaller things. I mean, he’s been out talking about how he’s gonna save Big Bird —

CROWD: (Laughter)

ROMNEY: — and then playing silly word games with my last name, or first, and then attacking me day in and day out. Attacking me doesn’t make an agenda, doesn’t get people back to work.

CROWD: (cheers and applause)

RUSH: We don’t need a secretary of business to understand business. We need a president who understands business, and I do.

CROWD: (cheers and applause)

RUSH: Right on, right on, all right. Right on, right on, right on. Exactly right. Folks, I’m just gonna tell you, another observation, and it’s worth what it’s costing you here, which is free, it’s nothing. It’s actually worth more than that. You listen to these two, Romney just has an air of invincibility here. You listen to Romney, it sounds like he knows how this is gonna turn out. You listen to Obama, you don’t get that sense from him. You get a defensive posture.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I got one more Romney here and then I’ve got sound bites of Chris Christie with Obama. I’m not gonna play ’em. I don’t know why… (interruption) No, just: Why give the guy a plug? (interruption) What, do you want to hear them? You want to stir the crap is all you want to do. Here’s one more Romney in Roanoke, Virginia.

This wraps up the sound bites that we have from the speech this morning that I thought was upbeat. The aura about the speech was one of confidence. I got the impression he really thinks he’s gonna win, and I don’t get that impression when I listen to Obama. That’s just me, and I’m not trying to predict the outcome of anything. That’s just me sharing with you my thoughts of the moment.

ROMNEY: This isn’t a time for small measures. This is a time for greatness. This is a time for big change, for real change. And that’s why, just as your next senator said, this is a time where from day one he’s gonna make changes. I’m gonna make real changes. IÂ’m going to get this economy going. From day one, we’re making changes.

RUSH: Okay. So that was Romney in Roanoke today where a Roanoke poll, in fact, has him up five in the state of Virginia.
